Painful incisions...1 month later

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am one month out of surgery and am still experiencing pain in my incisions. I can not return to work until I am fully recovered, because I have a very physically demanding job. About how long would you guys say that it was before you felt absolutely no pain, soreness, or discomfort. (I mean fully 100% healed) Thank for your help!

I haven't had my surgery yet but I plan on having it some time at the end of September. But my surgeon told me it should take about 4-6 weeks to heal. And that is the amount of time he is taking me off because my job is also hard on the body and requires a lot of lifting.

Do you have some way of relieving the pain? I've heard of heating pads helping some and also Tylenol (liquid)....I hope you start to feel better soon...

The pain is tolerable. I don't take anything for it. It is not that I am in too much to go back to work but in order to return I need to have absolutely no pain. I can very easily hurt myself at work. Of you have a physically demanding job I highly recommend taking off 6-8 weeks, 4 is simply not enough. Especially if you do heavy lifting.

I am a stay at home mom...which is mentally demanding lol but not physically demanding. When do you go back to work?

Hi rose310

I have a very physical job also. That is worrying me also. I am an LNA ( nurses Aide). 6-8 weeks off huh? I didn't think it would take that long to heal. Looks like I need some more PTO lol

It varies from case to case and the requirements of the job. Being on my feet long hours is not a problem. I am a conductor for the railroad. The extreme heavy lifting and crawling In to a tight space underneath and in between trains is the issue. I come home with new bruises every night all over. The last thing I need is to hurt myself. You might find you can go back sooner.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
