Current medications...

Recommended Posts

Are you supposed to bring current medications to the hospital? I plan to but just wondering what others were told to do. Also, when you go for your 1 week post op does your doctor do bloodwork to adjust your medications or will I go to my regular doctor for that. I actually see a specialist (endocrinologist) instead of a regular doc. I have an appt 3 days after my surgery that I was going to reschedule but I'm wondering if I should keep it or try to move it about a week later. Any thoughts?

Hi, I am in the exact same boat and my Endo is taking me off of some piils 2 day before, some the day before and he cut my insulin (I take a very small amount) in half before surgery. I was told to bring a detailed list of the medications I take as the hospital will provide any drugs I need while I am there. I am guessing that most folks going out of the country need to take their meds with them.

I have an appointment with my PCP 10 days after I am scheduled to come home and he can help adjust my meds if necessary. Since I check my own blood sugar I can easily adjust my insulin or even eliminate it (I sure do wish).

I hope this helps you decide how to deal with your meds.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm thing I should go ahead and reschedule for a week or so out of post op. Thanks for your reply and good luck with your surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
