New Here: Anybody feel like you're just on hold?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody! I am new to the site but have been reading your posts for a while. I finally got everything submitted to my ins co after over a month and I am now waiting on the outcome.

I feel like my life is on hold until I hear the results and can move forward. Hopefully I will shift out of paralysis mode and at least start an exercise regime tomorrow. After a month of reading your posts I think I've got my head around the potential pros and cons and feel good about it all. Now that I have resolved my issues, I am just anxious to move forward. Can anyone relate?

I can so relate my insurance company actually took a short period of time to come back with approval but the doctor himself has been on vacation so Tuesday I go in for my final appointment for my workup. The process has taken so long that at times I almost feel me getting so nervous I think about backing out. I know you said the Insurance Company is taking a really long time in making a decision. I don't know how yours works but the office was supposed to contact me as soon as they found out which they didn't that I had been approved. I actually contacted the insurance company they told me that I had been approved and then I contacted the office once again and they got my next appointment rolling. Soon enough the process for us will behind and we too will be post-op instead of pre-op hang in there we're almost there. BEST OF WISHES.

I had really bad timing. I decided to start on this process knowing that I was resigning from a job, but that I planned to keep the same insurance benefits through COBRA. I didn't know that the COBRA policy had to actually begin to be approved for surgery. Apparently you get a new insurance number. So they submitted my case to BCBS about two weeks ago, and were told to wait until September 1 for the new policy to be in effect to resubmit. I feel like I have been on hold the entire month of August!

Aw man I hate that Notgoingthere. I have some dynamics I am trying to work around also... Very frustrating and I can relate! Well, at least September 1st is next week and you can finally get the ball rolling!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
