Mood Swings after Roux en Y

Recommended Posts

I am post Surgery. Date of surgery 8/11/2014. I never have been a real patient person but talk about Moody. All over the map. small things aggravate me. I hope this phase is short.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I know for me I am post menopausal so must have a different cause.

Just curious if it was common.

You just had major surgery. Your hormones are all over the place...plus, many toxins that were stored in years of old fat are being released now. Don't worry too much, mine lasted about two weeks when I came home. I cried for 20 minutes when my two sweet dogs greeted me when we came home from the hospital. Where did that come from!!?? I also cried while watching my favorite soap General Hospital. I was snappy with my sweet husband and sister. Later that week, I laughed my a$$ off watching the news because a local criminal was caught!

That sounds about right. LOL

I was cooking for my husband last night (which not being hungry at all does not bother me) however me and the mixer had words last night. Needless to say I now need a new mixer.

I'm so glad to know it is not just me. I have gotten better over the last couples of months but right after my surgery I was truly a meanie. My husband and daughter were afraid to even ask me a simple question. I truly hope that is over. I don't want my family to be afraid of me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
