susanmh 2 Posted August 23, 2014 I had surgery on August 21 and got home today. Somehow I've gained 6lbs? Is this normal right after surgery?
jodyjetson 72 Posted August 23, 2014 Wow that must have been a shock. It's probably Water, medicine, and anything else retention. Your body will adjust and you will loss weight! Hopefully you can have as if this is true and laugh about it. Your weight won't always make sense.
Sleevarilla 169 Posted August 23, 2014 Congratulations!! Gaining weight immediately after surgery is almost mandatory. You've received a lot of IV fluids while in the hospital, as well as edema and swelling in your body (retaining those fluids). It will fade fairly quickly. I haven't even gotten on the scale yet and probably won't until my 2 week check up at my surgeon's office.
finediva 979 Posted August 23, 2014 I had surgery on August 21 and got home today. Somehow I've gained 6lbs? Is this normal right after surgery? I came home ne day after surgery and was 12 pounds heavier than the day of surgery. It then took me 5 days to return to my day of surgery weight. When I went for my 10 day post op appt my surgeon said I wad not making enough urine during surgery so they just kept pumping fluids into me. That and the extra iv fluids I got in the 24 hours I stayed in hospital. The 12 pounds had me down for a bit. I just wish I knew to expect it. You will lose it. Don't worry to much as long as you are ablec to urinate, it will go away.
