Sleevarilla 169 Posted August 23, 2014 Yes. I had my surgery on 8/20... sleeve w/hiatal hernia repair. The hernia repair hurts and hurts bad. It's like I can feel the liquid hit the hernia repair and sometimes it takes my breath away because it hurts so much. It gets better, I've been told. The bariatric coordinator at the hospital also said to no forget that I had two surgeries, not one and to give myself extra time to heal.
wolfmom71 6 Posted August 23, 2014 I had my surgery in june. I had the sleeve With a hiatal hernia done. For me it took alittle over over two weeks before I stopped feeling go through where the repair (hiatal hernia) was fixed. What I did was take smaller sips. And wait in between liquids before I took my next sip. That feeling will go way it just takes some time. Hang in there Hope that helps out
Bob2013 326 Posted August 23, 2014 Its probably not the hernia repair thats hurting. The hernia repair doesnt really cause a whole lot of trauma. Its more like stitching up a loose button hole. The sleeve surgery causes alot of swelling. The opening in upper part of the stomach probably isnt much bigger than your pinky due to the swelling so anything your eating or drinking is going to cause pain when it squeezes through the opening. Very small sips or bites is the only way to minimize the pain. But it will go away quickly.
Sleevarilla 169 Posted August 23, 2014 did you have a hernia repair, Bob? While I appreciate you chiming in, everyone I've spoken to who HAS had a hernia repair report the same feelings and problems. Therefore, I think it's safe to say that we CAN feel where the hernia repair was done. It's not as simple as "sewing up a button hole" as you put it. They have to yank the stomach back through the hole to where it's supposed to be, wrap it around and staple/suture it in place. Then the hole is also sutured. And THEN we get the sleeve. Just FYI that the hernia repair is NOT a simple add on, it causes recovery to be a little more difficult.
galady1106 2 Posted August 23, 2014 I had a hernia repair sand I was told the same thing as Bob. I had no problems with hernia or sleeve and did not require and pain medication after the recovery room. Everyone is different. I have an extremely high pain tolerance do the entire procedure, or both of them, were relatively simple for me.
mom24cuteboys 0 Posted August 23, 2014 Thanks for the responses. I did have a very large hiatal hernia and I was told it would be very painful and so far I have to say it has been. I was have several c section and other surgeries and have a high pain threshold but this has been very difficult.
