Hi,

i had my surgery July 9th. I am having a hard time getting my liquids in. Water cause my stomach to feel like its burning. I have tried Crystal Light but do not really like it. How many weeks out can we start having lemon with our water and why would water upset my stomach so much?

Thanks for your help...

I used lime almost right from the beginning. I had a hard time with plain Water and still do. I even froze lime water so I could just suck on them. I'm with you I hated anything with artificial flavour. Hang in there.

I use the Mio squirts and it does help. I was an avid Water drinker pre-op and now it's much harder to get it in. I just try to keep it cold and flavored and always have a full cup when I'm leaving the house.

Water is a neutral ph so with the acid in our stomachs it just doesnt jive. I drank lemon Water from week 1....I couldnt handle the sweet of crystal light at the time. Was drinking g2 and lemon water. I got terrible heartburn from water. Now it only happens if I chug water. (15 mo out) At about 1 month I got one of those bottlws that lets you infuse your water using various fruits. That was a nice treat last summer to use fresh fruit but still get in my water.

Good luck! Just trial and error!

All of you should be on an acid blocker. Most surgeons start their patients on a PPI like Protonix immediately after surgery.

Plain Water is the wrong PH for our stomachs. Our stomachs still make the same amount of acid as it did when it was a big stomach. It doesn't know that it needs to stop producing too much acid cause we decided to go and have most of it removed.

Drink whatever works best for you. I like Propell Water. Plain water I drink only at room temp.

Thank you for your replies. I will add a some lemon to my Water and see if that is better. I am on an acid blocker but that doesn't help.

I am on omeprazole 40mg twice a day and still have acid

Water or any drink seems to make it worse.

I've done crystal light, lemon, lime, fruits, ice tea, coffee, milk. Etc

Milk for some reason keeps acid at bay longest but not long enough.

I pop tums like candy. Ready for a new ppi

I started 40mgs twice a day just two weeks ago.

Missed two doses on a business trip this week and it flared up massively. My surgeon didn't think I was having acid but more overrating San drinking. Got news for him

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
