My surgery is Wednesday august 27... Had my last doctor visit today... Can I get some feedback on the pain pump... I was ok until she told me I can take it out at home . That freaked me out since it goes under the skin and it has to be pulled out. She did say I could come I to the office and have it taken out... How do I know if I am feeling better? I will be still getting pain meds through the pump. Thank you! I am nervous and excited!

Pain pump?

I just had VSG and didn't need anything like that. It wasn't that bad.

Maybe you're having a different surgery though.

Good luck.

No pain pump needed here.

I had a pain pump with my surgery. I had the same pump in a previous surgery. It's not as scary as it sounds. If I remember correctly most of the medicine is out of the pump by the 3rd day. Then you will take it out. It's just a small drain tube and comes out easily. Good luck

I had a "drain" when I had plastic surgery...actually 3 of them. Don't worry it doesn't hurt when they pull it out. Trust me I can't take pain at all I promise it won't hurt.

are you talking about the on-q pain pump? If thats what your talking about it is really easy to remove and there is no pain involved except when removing the tape holding the tubes on your belly. But thats not a big deal. Its like removing a bandaid.

I had an on-q pain pump and it is seriously the easiest thing. I was really freaked out when my doctor explained it to me but you truly don't feel it when it comes out. The most annoying part is showering with it :-)

I didn't have one for my sleeve (and didn't need it) but did have one this past week for my Tummy Tuck. (and really did need it!). I removed it on day three. I had two small catheters inserted into each side, and they were in about 12 inches. I did feel it coming out, though I can't say it hurt. I was surprised that I had to pull pretty hard to get them out. I'm an RN and have removed lots of different types of tubes, and usually I think they slide out easier than this did. Anyway, it was pretty easy to manage. My advise would be to take it out as soon as it's deflated, because you'll still be numb. I waited a few hours, and the numbing medicine (Marcaine) that's in there had worn off, which is probably why I could feel it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
