Preop Newbie - Food Processers and Shakers & Preop Emotions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am on the journey to preparing for surgery. I've had dietician visits, psychiatrist visit and attended support groups. I will see the surgeon in a couple weeks and hope to set my surgery date for November 3rd, or somewhere around there. I am exploring food processers and small blenders etc for shakes and purees.

What brands/types would you recommend?

Also, I am extremely excited about the possibilities ahead of me and at the same time I am pretty anxious and nervious. How are you all managing your emotions as you lead up to surgery?

Thanks,

MarieW

I highly recommend the Ninja Master Prep Professional. I researched for days trying to find the perfect blender/food processor and I hit gold when I found this thing! Blends perfectly smooth every time and the food processor is awesome too. The blade extends the whole length of the blender instead of just at the bottom so it gets everything (and makes for easy cleanup). I got mine for $50 on Amazon with free shipping. Check it out! (:

I had good experience with the Ninja Blender. The type of blender I use has two 16 ounce Ninja cups. You put on the blender lid for blending and then switch over to the sippy cup lid for drinking. I use a baby bottle scrubber brush to clean out the cups after use.

I really didn't have a lot of preop emotions. Once I decided that I wanted the surgery, I never looked back or second guessed myself. The night before surgery I did feel exactly like I did the night before I went to bootcamp in the Navy. It felt like it was the start of a new life, a life unlike anything I had ever lived before. It was very surreal when I was being wheeled into the operating room. I am almost 11 months post-op and I cannot wait to see what the next 11 months holds. I get goose bumps just typing this. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like this is the one to go with.

Wow. I wish you well on your journey. I am not scheduled for an EGD. My surgeons and the surgeons in his group do not do them routinely. Now that I've made the decision, I wish mine was sooner too. September 18th will be here before you know it.

I love "Relentless Forward Motion" I am very sure of my decision. I guess there is excitement and butterflies. I want to get this right. I have great support and I am following everything that has been put in front of me. Thanks for the booster.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
