Am scheduled for my last visit with my surgeon on Tuesday August 26th. I then only have to wait for insurance approval and schedule a date. I'm 5'3", and weighed 240 at my first visit. I have lost a few, gained a few throughout the 6 month process, so overall I'm only a few pounds from my starting weight. I'm very disappointed in myself for not being able to lose more before. I was talking with a good friend of mine about it, and she said "if you could do it alone, you would. You wouldn't need the surgery." She has a point I guess. I have to stop beating myself up about it. I think in my mind I'm afraid of the things I won't be able to eat after, so I've kind of eaten whatever I want. Not the best plan probably.

I am very excited to start a new chapter in my life. I'm 35 years old, single, never married, no kids. I'm an RN, and want to be a healthy role model to my pts. I have 2 nieces and a nephew that I want to be good role models for. I don't want to be that 'fat' aunt that can't play basketball, baseball, soccer, etc with them.

I will keep you posted. This is kind of difficult for me. My family and close friends know of my decision to have lap band surgery, but I haven't talked about it outside that circle. Typing it out to a group of strangers is very intimidating, but necessary for me!

Of course you're nervous.... and excited too, I bet. I am one year out as of TODAY. It's a life changer.......

I'm with your friend..... If you could do it on your own, you would have. To me, that is proof that you are headed in the right direction to reclaim your health and your life.

Best wishes on YOUR JOURNEY!

Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I too, have had a complete change to my life due to the weight loss and subsequent hip replacement surgery. I can do almost anything again and have gotten my life back. You will find that you can eat alot of the foods you think you won't tolerate anymore and better yet, you will find that not eating alot of these foods will not bother you so much as you become healthier and happier with your decision to be banded.

Thank you for the encouragement!! I am very excited to do this, just a little nervous that I'll fail at yet another weight loss journey. I'm sure that's a normal feeling, just have to remember why I'm doing it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
