Anyone have any food ideas for post op like 3 months out and longer, recipes and food sources maybe even eating out ideas and tips. I would be very interested in any of your ideas or methods.

For fast food type of eating out - a small chili from Wendy's is all I've ever tried.

For sit-down type of eating out - I've found that no matter where we end up I can always find something. I tend to go for a small steak or fish meal. chicken works too, but I've discovered that most of the time it is either covered with some sort of sauce (I question sugar content) or it ends up dry. Usually not the case with fish or steak. I then typically have 1 or 2 more meals from the leftovers.

And my fave has always been Mexican. So far all of the places I've been have all been very accommodating when asking them to give me a burrito without the tortilla, just the meat with lettuce, Tomato, cheese and green chili. Usually makes good leftovers for 2 more meals.

Hi everyone,

I am 5 weeks post op RNY. I'm doing well and have lost 45 pounds. I walk 3 miles a day and have begun to do Tai Chi. I am trying to eat a variety of foods high in Protein, however, meat just seems so dry even with low fat gravy. chicken, tuna, fish, ham seem dry and then when I chew and chew they all seem to get dryer. And then they get up under my lip and it's not good. My nutritionist is helpful in that she encourages me but no real solutions. cheese, yogurt, chili etc are ok but I want a bit more variety. I will be going back to work the day after Labor Day and I want to feel comfortable eating my lunch there.

Any input is appreciated!

I can't do roasted chicken/turkey yet, and I'm 15 months post op. I have only recently been able to tolerate tuna. I have had no problems with ground chicken or turkey. I can eat it plain, in meatballs, meat sauce, and meatloaf. I add it to my chili for extra Protein. I can eat chicken burgers w/guacamole - the guacamole is moist and helps it go down easy. Tilapia has always been a 'safe' food for me, as is shrimp or scallops. I often eat shrimp cocktail as a meal all by itself. I make a version of Ricotta Bake that includes a layer of meat sauce made w/ground chicken. It's like lasagna w/o the Pasta. My husband loves it so I never have any leftovers. Spaghetti squash with chicken sausage or meat sauce is also good and well-tolerated as long as I chew the sausage well and eat it slowly.

Try tuna with relish and low-fat mayo...this helps make it wet and flavorful.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
