1 month post op issues

Recommended Posts

Well I am 1 month post op today

I am really thankful that I did not have any big issues and that my surgery went better than expected and my wounds healed up great. I am also grateful for my husband and friends and family who have been so supportive (at least most of the time, LOL) and my doctor and his staff who are pretty great. And I am really thankful for all of the wonderful people on this site that make this journey a little easier.

I am a little discouraged because I lost 15lbs in the first 2 weeks and now the scale barely seems to move. I have lost a total of 24lbs. and most of my pain is gone, except when I overdo it. The one thing I cannot seem to get under control is my energy levels. I am so exhausted. I have bursts of energy and then I'm down for the count. I am exhausted but not sleepy, so naps are a rarity. I can't walk around the neighborhood right now, like I used to, because of the humidity which really affects my asthma and no breathing=no fun. So I walk around the stores or the house where there is A/C. Or I try to do an exercise video. But I still feel like I am not getting enough exercise. So any tips on how to get more activity in would be nice

My other issue is that I am bipolar and my medication just rips through my stomach now, whether I take the liquid form or the tablets, and I get diarrhea. It's very painful and I would prefer not to but if I don't take my medication for a few days I become a sobbing mess. I take my Omeprazole first thing in the morning. I've tried taking pepto chewables before my medicine but neither seems to help. Any suggestions?

I'm going to sound like a broken record around here but....Yoga. You need to find a gentle yoga group. It will help with your anxiety and depression and it incredibly energizing! Just make sure the class is held in a climate controlled studio.

You are doing great with both weight loss and exercise. If you chart your weight loss, it is never going to look like a smooth slope racing diagonally downhill. It's going to look like stair steps going down, and not even nice even stair steps. Like crazy stair steps that you would have to lurch down and probably trip on! Trust the process and that if you follow your eating plan you will lose weight, just not in a way that you can predict, control, or even like!

Being exhausted is normal. Focus on getting your fluids and Protein in and your energy will gradually come back. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
