Lap band removed

Recommended Posts

Had my band removed 8/19/14 it was placed 11-12-12. I did fine with it for a few months then it was so right I couldn't swallow my spit went to ER and ever since then my body has not felt right. Had to go through hoops and tons of testing to find out there is nothing wrong with my band. Yet I felt horrible all the time I would vomit after a couple of bites no matter what it was. All the Drs I have seen treat me like a failure and say I only want it out to eat more. That is not the case but they do not believe me that I really did not feel good. One day after having it removed I feel such relief! The surgeon did not come and see me and tell me anything if she found anything or nothing. I just know I feel 100 times better already... I was trying to find pics of stomach after removal but I can't find any. I'm having a hard time dealing w the drs looking down on me and think I only did it so I can eat normal again but that is not the case at all!! I felt like my body never really accepted it. Any thoughts or same stories or words of positive ness would be great!

That's unfortunate your band didn't work for you. Seems like there's a very small percentage of patients whose bodies reject the band and I can see how that does happen.

Not sure why you wanted to find a picture of a stomach but if you google cadaver stomach images you can find as many disgusting pictures as you want?

Good luck in the future and if you don't go with another WLS technique I'd recommend the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet. Quite easy to stay on and it does work.

I'm so sorry the band did not work for you. I don't understand why any of the doctors should be judgemental in any way. That is not their job. Wishing you well in your recovery.

I had my band removed last week. I kept my sickness with my band hidden from my family. I was exactly like you I could never êat anything period. I would be sick all the time. Had testing and band was in place but two weeks ago I was x rayed and my band had slipped so surgery to remove was schedule dc last week. I'm still taking it slow with food but last evening I had a small chicken leg......and didn't get sick. Felt good to eat a piece of chicken, hadn't ate any in quite some time due to the vomiting with band. I am glad I am on my way to 'normacy'

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
