I was wondering if i am supposed to be able to feel the port under my skin. I was banded on 4/30 and feel great but am getting a little worried about that. I pressed down pretty hard and don't feel anything. Thanks for your help.

As I lost weight I could feel it very easily. Your surgeon knows where it is. My surgeon had no problems with my two fills.

Best wishes on your journey,

edie

I couldn't feel mine right after I was banded either. I couldn't feel it at all until I lost about 30 pounds. Then I was freaked out, because there was this lump sticking out of me! I could feel my port! :) Either way, its ok.

LOL!! I'm a year out and still not sure where mine is. Guess it's buried in the fat somewhere. But Dr Maese hits it first time every time for the fills so guess he knows where it is and that's all that matters!

I can feel mine, now....the first few weeks after surgery I couldn't really feel it...I knew that the large incision was more painful than the others, but I didn't know that was where the port was...I thought it would be on the left side down low....I called the doctors office and asked the nurse was I supposed to have a large lump under the large incision...she just laughed, and laughed and said," yea, that is your port.".. Picture in booklet didn't show the port up that high...it looked like it was hanging down low on left side...I was so relieved...I thought something had ruptured....I was so nervous with every move...Now....I am finally relaxed with this procedure...

I would almost swear that they forgot to band me after my surgery for the first 2 weeks, but now i know its there. sometimes in the day i cant feel my port by just pushing on my stomach, but if i drink apx 20+ oz for some reason my port sticks out more and i can feel it better.

I've always been able to feel mine, but I think it really depends on how deep the port is. I wouldnt be concerned over it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
