I know that I'm only half way through my insurance mandated weight loss, but I am getting SO excited! I had my third weigh-in today and lost another five pounds and was able to get all but one appointment made. The last on (for my endoscopy) can't be made until after I see my GI Dr. at the end of September. One of the best parts of today was all the encouragement I got from everyone at the family practice clinic I go to. My Dr. and all the staff are very happy and excited that I am having RNY. They have worked hard to make sure that I have all my weigh-in appointments when I need them and are more than willing to work around all the Bariatric clinic appointments. After losing my two most encouraging doctors at the first of the year, I never expected to end up with two doctors willing to do everything they could to move me forward on this exciting journey!

I am one week behind you. Monday is my third weigh in. It really has gone by quick. I am guessing is probably won't have surgery until January though. It is exciting.

My insurance requires 6 complete months of overview by my doc so that will actually require 7 weigh ins. Then insurance submittal and approval..then surgery scheduling. I will be happy IF I get early January...but that really is the perfect time for me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
