This pre-op diet is so hard i fail everyday

Recommended Posts

I'm on my pre-op diet right now too and it definitely SUCKS. I'm allowed three Protein shakes per day (with specific nutritional requirements), one green salad with calorie free dressing, and sugar-free Jello and popsicles for Snacks. I'm on my 5th day and I've stuck to it, but it has not been fun. It's especially hard because I was told to keep up my exercise routine and I have NO energy. I'm never actually hungry now. I even dread my Protein Shakes and salad, but I force them down. I just hate feeling so run down and slightly sick to my stomach all of the time.

I start my Preop diet next week. I am not looking forward to it at all, but I know I need this. I will see this as my fast before my breakthrough. But I'm scared. I am trying not to think about last foods, cause that will defeat the whole purpose of having this surgery. I am so tired of the women I see in the mirror, and I know my season is here.

@@Myonlybattle I would def look to try some other brands of shakes. I have been drinking the GNC Lean premixed shakes that come in the bottle in the Strawberries and Cream flavor (it's lactose free).

It is very thin, not thick at all, and I find it very easy to tolerate.

Good luck, you can do it. :)

I have not gotten to this point but my doctor makes it very clear that I along with the others in my nutritional class, we will all be on a two week pre-op diet. It consist of up to 4 Protein shakes a day, only 3 with skim milk though, and clear fluids that contain zero carbs and NO sugar. No food whats so ever, no chewing.

My Dietician stated that 1 week prior to surgery, I am on a high Protein low carb phase.

3-4 Protein shakes <-- use Almond Milk

sugar free Pop-sicles

sugar free Jello

Lentils

Water - Water - Water <-- my downfall

I can have some fruit

Doctor said I had to quit smoking ciggerettes (which I did) only using a vapor pipe (ecig) but dietician said I can't even use that. to quit smoking makes you hungrier but I am still 2 months out from my surgery so hopefully my cravings will disipate.

You should really really really quit smoking before the surgery. Nicotine drastically reduces your body's ability to heal. E-cigarettes still have nicotine, so they are no better than normal cigarettes in that regard. In fact, currently the amount of nicotine in e-cigarettes isn't regulated, so they could be worse.

Here's a little article about it:

I am on day 3 of a 2 week all liquid diet: Protein Shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles, Decaf tea... If I see on more KFC commercial I don't think I can handle it.

LOL, I know what you mean, I never realized how much we are bombarded by food advertising. But hang in there, I'm on day 9, still not hungry but getting tired of liquids. You can do it!

I feel your pain. It seemed as if it was a conspiracy after I had surgery every other commercial was for food. I probably would have noticed early if I had to do a pre-op diet. It does get better once you are on regular food, at least for me it did. I don't even notice any more or have cravings. Hang in there it is well worth it.

I only had to do 5 days pre op, all liquid....thought I was going nuts. Nights were so hard so I would take a melatonin at 6:30pm and start to wind down, trying to fall asleep by 8.

I dropped 7 pounds in my preop days, was sleeved on 8/25 and am down a total of 12....I'm sure most we're done in the preop days. Do whatever you need to pass the time, you'll be so pleased when you get through it!! You can do it! Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels....not even KFC.

Well I'll tell you, being in San Antonio where there is a mexican restaurant every 5 feet and someone brings in breakfast tacos every day ain't helping! Beginning to wish I lived somewhere where they eat sprouts and tofu.

The pre-op is done as the liver will shrink and make it easier to get to the stomach. They have to move the liver and they need as much room as possible. My niece had the band done and the nicked her liver a little, but she is fine. Maybe knowing this will help and keep you on track as to why the pre-op. It is for your safety as well as making it easier for your doc.

Please don't beat yourself up. I too am on pre-op and it is miserable. It's 2 weeks of nothing but liquids. Well, lo and behold, I fell off the wagon on day 4. I thought I had made it through the hardest part but I let myself get too hungry and I snapped. I want back to liquids after and am hoping I can stay on them. I've got 9 more days to go. I figure 9 days of liquids should be sufficient for any dang surgery, at least I hope so. So hang in there, do your best, drink your shakes, crystal light, broth, whatever, as often as you can get it down. It helps. I will be so glad to get this behind me and onto the post-surgery phase! That has to be better! God bless!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
