This pre-op diet is so hard i fail everyday

Recommended Posts

Sylvia, sorry, I have been offline for a while. I am having the sleeve done at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Westover Hills by Sea World. My surgeon is Dr. Richard Peterson. He is a UT Health physician and the bariatric program is a joint venture of UT and CHRISTUS. I REALLY like him and the whole staff. I'm very excited about the surgery! Mine is 9/10. When and where is yours? (P.S. Please don't tell him I cheated!)

I just want to add one thing: I had been having second thoughts about this surgery, thinking I ought to try harder, wondering if I really want to limit myself to tiny bites of food for the rest of my life. If I just get out and run like I used to, I can eat what I want! But the fact that I am 56, on this pre-op and I failed on day 4 makes me realize I will never have the stamina to change my behavior enough to lose 100+ pounds. I don't have the luxury of a tv trainer hovering over me. I work until I am exhausted, come home and do chores and fall into bed, just like everyone else. So this is my last hope. It's this surgery or I either die young or become disabled and live longer like my dear Mom. The pre-op is horrible but nothing like what she endured. So I'll make it somehow.

You aren't alone. We will get through this successfully.

Well the subject says it all everyday I eat a meal because I can't go all day on liquids. I feel like a failure. My dr told me it will be easier after because my stomach will be so small that I won't be as hungry and not to kick myself too much but I can't help me :( majority of the day I have what I'm suppose to it's just one meal I need to eat. Am I screwed? Writing this I want to cry :( I have been battling to get this for 4 years and I can't even handle the damn pre op diet. Thanks for letting me vent.

There are other options depending on what you are doing. My surgeons office has my preop diet as no more than 40 carbs per day. I can eat things like chicken breast, veggies, ground turkey breast taco salads, even a low carb ice cream bar I found. Carb smart is 11 grams carbs. So depending on what I eat during the day I can have a snack. I am filling up on chicken and veggies before anything else and snacking on sunflower seeds when I get the urge to eat when not hungry. A few of the seeds do the trick.

I know i am not a doctor. But, I think the key is less carbs. I could be wrong, but I believe it's something about the way carbs break down in your system. So I plan to my best, but if I just have to have something I will do by best to not have carbs/starches.

The requirements are soooo different from different docs. Do your best. Mine did not require a specific pre-op diet until 5 days before surgery, (full liquids). I'd have done ANYTHING for only 5 days at that point so it wasn't a problem. I WAS required to lose 10 pounds between my consult and surgery 3 weeks later. I did that (and then some) on Quest bars, (one for Breakfast and one for lunch) and a high Protein low carb dinner.

. We are entering a new phase of our live, just making this decision means you are a strong person. Our new motto... Eat to Live.... Not live to eat????

I had a pre-op diet, but it was not a liquid diet. It was basically Atkins phase one. Lots of Protein, low carb. I took it as permission for me to eat lots of steak. I lost 18lbs on it. Wasn't really trying. My surgeon didn't have any difficulties getting up under my liver (and no one who uses my hospital has to have a liquid diet). So it must work.

Same here. My 2 week preop diet is all normal foods just of the healthier mix. chicken, turkey fish, salads, fruits, veggies.... The program I'm in doesn't like the Protein Shake diets. Even in the 2 week postop they don't recommend Protein Shakes. They rather you puree your foods and eat greek or low fat yogurts and broths with added powdered milk for extra protein.

I am near the end of my two week liquid pre op liquid diet. I cheated on day 4. :( But I got back on it and have been fine since. The reason I cheated is I let myself get too hungry that day. The key is definitely following your doc's plan. It's funny... I'm not even hungry anymore.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
