OK guys - need some MAJOR support! I am now 3 weeks post op and I have only lost 10lbs! Lost those in first few days but since then the scale has not moved!!!!! Please tell me others are having same issue! WTF am I doing wrong? Fact is I am not eating but maybe a total of 1 to 1-1/2 cups of food (if that's what you want to call it) a day. I have not had good luck getting in the Protein. My counter looks like a GNC store with all the different protein powders I have bought - but NOTHING tastes good enough to allow me to drink the whole damn thing. I get in a few sips and I want to vomit! I am eating oatmeal for Breakfast and have had pureed something for lunch - today its bruinswick stew. For dinner I eat the remainder of the can if I can get that much down. WHY the hell isn't the scale moving!!!! Did I really do this to myself and spend 30K just to lose 10lbs, be nauseous all the time, tired all the time, and regurgitate daily???

We've all been there! And it is very frustrating indeed. You will lose weight but right now your body is in healing mode and also freaking out that it isn't getting a lot of food so it is trying to hang on to everything. Keep it up and your body will finally align with your efforts.

The Protein drinks can be pretty awful and each brand has a different taste. The one that I did find that was good was the vanilla flavor (or something like that, maybe french vanilla? ) and I mixed it with 100% apple juice. Tastes like a pina colada! A bit sweeter than I would like but... I think there are some like unjury that might not have any flavor that you can add to things. I personally like the Isopure Protein Drinks that look like juice. They are 40 grams of Protein, though the are an acquired taste. A lot of people hate them but once I got used to them I found them to be pretty tasty. Just don't expect them to taste like the flavor it is.

You'll get there. Keep a food journal every day, get in as much protein as you can (within the limits your dr wants), drink a lot of Water, exercise, and stop weighing yourself every day. Try once a week. You'll be surprised!

Best of luck.

Everyone's body is different. Some starting losing very slow and then pick up and some lose quite a lot at first and then slow down. Just listen to your body and everything will be okay. Make sure you're getting your protein, Water, and Vitamins in everyday. What made a difference with me is waking. At 2 weeks i walked on the treadmill for 15 mins then kept going up till i could speed walk for 30 mins. Try doing that.

I used to weigh myself every week, but when my body slowed down, i started weighing every two weeks.. You really will be surprised. Remember, you did this in order to be healthy and for many different reasons! So stick to it! YOU CAN DO IT

Hi I agree with the above statements as long as your getting in your Protein, drinking Water and exercising the weight will come off, your body needs the Protein to heal and the Water to ensure that you do not get dehydrated. Just remember to listen to your doctors and the weight will began to come off, please remember that you did not gain the weight overnight and it will not come off over night, stay focus and remember to exercise. And also remember that just because the scale is not moving does not mean that you are not loosing weight. Congrats on your choice to be healthy and welcome to the losers bench.

Hi and welcome.

I can't emphasize enough that your Protein is the number one priority for you to have.

Without Protein you will not heal correctly and your hair down the line with start to fall out more because of the lack of protein.

The second most important thing is drinking all the Water so you don't get dehydrated and have to go to the hospital for IV fluids or a hospital stay.

The third thing is getting in your Vitamins and supplements every day.

If you can't do this I suggest you talk to your surgeon and nutritionist because you'll have problems.

unjury makes a chicken Soup that has 20g of protein per serving or buy unflavored Protein powder and add it to drinks or sugar free pudding or make shakes with it using PB2 which is Peanut Butter powder or chocolate Peanut Butter powder. You could add sugar free Torani syrups to the shakes.< /strong>

Another thing stay off the scale it's very self defeating and bad for your mind. If you must go on it then do it once a week at the same time of day and wearing the same thing.

I personally don't own a scale and only get weighed when I have a doctors appointment.

So take this information and do what you want with it, it's all up to you.

I know that if you stick with it you will loose weight and feel healthier.

Good luck.

Believe me, I am really trying to swallow this stuff. I have 2 canisters of the unjury chickn Soup, 2 cans nectar drinks, a Choc PB shake canister, a vanilla, strawberry and mocha chololate s well as a canister of unflavored. I have tried everything but they just wont go down. I instantly feel naseaus the minute it touches my lips! I have known from the beginning that the liquids would be an issue because I have never been a big drinker. I thought the shakes weren't going to be an issue though since I did fine with them the first few days post op. That's why I bought so much so I would have a variety. But this past week has really been hell trying to get ANY of it in without regurgitation or naseau. And the unflavored is not really unflavored since it tastes like chalk! lol. I have tried mixing it in my food but when you can only eat 1/2 a cup you cant really mix that much into it without turning the food into glue. With all that being said, my energy level is 0 - though I am making myself walk the treadmill for a min of 30 mins at a brisk pace so I burn at least 200 cals on that - which takes 1/2 of what I am able to consume in a day! The logical person in me knows my body is in starvation mode and is hoarding everything I am putting in my pouch - but what the heck can I do? I have a NUT apt on Sept 9th - but what can she tell me that I have not already tried? How long can I go like this before something medical does happen???

Sorry for complaining. I just want to do everything (I am able to control) correctly so I benefit as much as possible from this. I didn't go through surgery for the fun of it so I am frustrated that something as simple as drinking is causing me such a headache!!

What made the Protein Shakes bareable to me was mixing in a banana and some ice. It tastes like a nice smoothie. I could not drink it otherwise. Can you have fruits? My doctor cleared me for bananas pretty early (10 days after my surgery I was on well chewed solids, 5 days after surgery I was on pureed!!), so this saved my life. I love my shakes until this day. But I have to watch now as I can eat more, and one smoothie with the banana and milk is over 200 cal, so I gotta go easy...

Look at the recipes for Protein Shakes on the website theworldaccordingtoeggface dot com. She has some amazing ones made with sugar free puddings, instant coffee, fruits and other things. Maybe you will find something you can work with.

Did you try the chocolate lean 25 Protein Powder? I drink one ever morning and it's really good. I also prepaid Water bottles each day with SF Hawaiian punch powder pouch. This helps me want to drink water. No at a lite & fit Greek yogurt 80 calories, which has 12 grams if Protein, I then eat chicken for lunch and then more chicken for supper or another shake. I love sf bluebell Popsicles for added water intake. I tried oatmeal early on like you and had big problems with it. My doctor told me it's not an easy thing to eat early on. I ended up around week 4 or 5 finding out the intestine was to small and dr went in with scope and dilated it making the opening wider and I have had absolutely no problems with anything since. My surgery was May 7th. Let me know if you have any other questions:)

I am 5 days postop and 2 pounds heavier than morning of surgery. It's frustrating more than anything. I know my body just went through major surgery and is in trauma mode but I'd live to see a loss on the scale. Did a gain after surgery happen for anybody else?

Yes, most people gain up to 10 lbs cause of the Iv fluids we get at hospital. Also they air up our stomach so you poofy. Don't worry, very soon the scale will start moving. :)

I can only imagine what you are going through. I am a very nauseous person and I am dreading those shakes when I have my surgery....

However what if you take anti nausea medication and then have the shakes? Is it the taste or the smell that is making you nauseous/sick? I would cover my nostril when it's time to drink it

It's worth a shot. Hang in there.

It's everything! My gag reflex has always been bad.. I have now been 2 weeks without a shake.. My nut said I would be cleared for solids on 9/11 so I have already invested in several boxes of Quest bars- will get Protein in with them. Just have to make it to the 11th without losing my hair! Lol. Also have been really sick with flue for past 3 days so energy is non existent!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
