Any men recently banded?

Recommended Posts

I am a 52 year old male who was banded on Aug 14. Tomorrow marks one week. I have lost 11 pounds post surgery and with the weight loss from the pre-surgery diet I have lost a total of 23 pounds in 3 weeks. I am so thrilled with this.

I was wondering if there are any men who have been banded that can help me and coach me through this. I appreciate all of the women in this forum, but I was just looking for an accountability partner so to speak.

I am new to this posting stuff and would love someone to help me out as my journey begins.

Thanks

Keith

@@2muchfun thanks for that. Just looking for support and help and guidence. This is all new to me but I am really stoked

about it. Colorado is where I grew up. I lived and graduated in Loveland. Great place.

Keep in touch. The first 6 months can be very frustrating, especially before you get enough fills to not be hungry all the time. I was fit to be tied the first 4 months. Only lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. There's a lot they don't tell you before surgery.

But it's all good now. I'm so happy I did this.

@@2muchfun wow nothing for 4 months? That sounds horrible! I am glad for you that you had a breakthrough. I am thankful for this forum so I can learn from those who have gone on before me,

I am glad that things are going well for you now.

Thanks

It took four months before I saw the weight loss begin. it can take time to get to the proper fill. Many doctors are very cautious, the first month or so is needed for healing. It is frustrating; but once the band starts working it will be worth it.

@@Vitaminj glad to hear you had the surgey. You have already lost a nice amount of weight. Congrats! You will recover. I am at one week and two days post surgery and am recovering fine. The Gas X really helped me.

I hope to hear the good report!

Take care,

Keith

Thanks @@KDS5000!

It is interesting that my profile doesn't show my weight the day of surgery even though its in my profile. I am down about 4.5 pounds since surgery. I will probably update my profile to give a more accurate number.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
