Recommended Posts

Didn't sleep much last night after getting my October 23 date it's kind of hard I don't have a lot of support just from the group's here my husband thinks that just because I lost weight before hand that I could just keep doing it he doesn't want to hear anything about the surgery my daughter said at your age I am 67 why would you do it so it is a struggle for me to stay positive with all the negative

I am starting to get emotional now feeling pretty much alone on this journey But the good news is already my A1C from my diabetes has dropped from 10.5 to 7.1 that is way I am doing this surgery to get healthly has anyone else started to get emotional as it gets closer food is my best friend

Hi Kathy812, I have a 17 October date, as well. I'm on a restricted diet; however, it's mostly Protein and vegetables. I'm heading to the hospital today to do pre-admission paperwork. I'm excited about the journey and would love to share experiences as we embark on this new journey

Kathy and I are friends and I'm excited to welcome you to the OCTOBER 17, 2014 "SURGERY SISTERHOOD" I'm screaming it so you can hear me!! WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!! :)

My husband has been supportive from the start....When I told him about my decision to have the procedure he was speechless... He thought I was joking. After all these years..he didn't think I was "that fat". It brought tears to my eyes because after four kids and almost 13 years together, he said he wad still attracted to me and loved me for who I was on the inside and outside...

Hello Mona!!

I'm so glad to see you here. I just realized where you are from and "Honey" We live only 35-40 minuets from each other.... Let's do lunch Protein shakes sometime!! LOL

Lindalue, I was visiting a church and they were acknowledging two women with birthdays: one was 86 and one was 92. They were both doing well and one was still living on her own. I realized then that I had more life ahead of me than behind, and that I could have any kind of life I chose to have. 67 is young, and it is never too late to live your best life. Some people are not ready for change, so you are doing the right thing looking outside for support. I let my sister discourage me for years (even though she did the surgery 20 years ago). It was only when I made up my mind to dismiss everyone else's opinion about something that is clearly a personal (individual) decision did everything change. When the negativity comes, speak life. It works!

Lindalue, I want to paraphrase a quote from Dr. Oz that has really helped me. He said that if you are over 50 and obese it is the same as getting a solid diagnosis of cancer. And you would take steps, such as surgery to treat the cancer to save your life. That is what WLS surgery will do. Hope this helps and gives you some comfort and strength.

Thanks. I need those happy calming vibes too. I go on the 14th also. I am a little nervous. Mostly just ready to be post-op. It is coming up quickly. Trying to think of everything I need.

Hello again, everyone. It has been a crazy week but surgery is Monday. I have everything I need as far as I can tell. I am far less stressed and worried than I was on Monday, in part because I have been messaging with you guys and reading the boards. I have 3 ladies from my pre-surgery group who are ahead of me, had their surgery already, and I have been watching their journeys as well. I am still appropriately scared but I am a person of faith and prayer is helping me a lot. How are you guys doing?

I'm scheduled for 10/27! Counting down......

I'm really now wanting to have a lot of people around - my daughter will be with me the first day. Who are you having with you for surgery and post op recovery. Should I have my mom come in - I'm single.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
