A heads up...

So if you are anything like me, the move to more and more solid food may also be accompanied by a move to more and more solid... other things. *cough*

During this period where we aren't supposed to have much Fiber yet it can be especially difficult to mitigate the effects through dietary intake alone!

My doctor says that if you have trouble in this area, the preferred treatment is Colace, not a more harsh stimulant laxative which is still too harsh for our healing plumbing. It's gentle enough to take every day.

I had an unfortunate GI weekend, so I am passing along (no pun intended) my lesson learned! It was a surprise to me because I've spent the last decade on metformin, which tends to give me GI trouble in the opposite direction, so I wasn't prepared!

My nutritionist recommends anything nutritional, natural apple sauce, flax seed (super tiny) can be mixed into lots of stuff, and prunes

Sorry I meant natural items to help your digestion.

I use Milk Of Magnesia. It's also gentle on the GI system.

My dr. Recommends aloe Vera juice. I believe it's available in different flavors.

Just tried this recipe tonight. ???? it!

pumpkin Protein shake

This is a wonderfully decadent way to get in your protein! Spicy, creamy and icy-thick.…milkshakes never had it so good!

1/4 cup pumpkin puree

1 cup skim milk or soymilk

1 scoop vanilla Protein powder (such as Matrix Simply Vanilla)

1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or 1/4 t. cinnamon, 1/8 t. cloves, 1/8 t. ginger)

2 tablespoons Splenda Granular

1/4 cup Cool Whip or NSA vanilla yogurt

1 cup ice cubes

Place pumpkin, milk, Protein Powder, spices, Splenda, cool whip or yogurt, and ice cubes in blender container; process until slushy. Makes one Meal Replacement serving.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
