Hi October sleeve buddies!

Checking back in. This week I started back in to work at my office... or actually, that was the PLAN but it didn't quite work out that way.

I normally telework on Monday and Friday and am in the office on Tuesday-Thursday. So I teleworked Monday and it was fine, and then I went in to the office on Tuesday. I packed myself supplies to get through the day and did very well, got in two Protein shakes, some scrambled egg and some applesauce, then drove myself home through the Atlanta traffic. Well as soon as I got through the door I was just hit with a WALL of fatigue - I almost burst into tears, I was just SO TIRED. By the time I went to bed I was having some dizziness. When I got up yesterday I was still dizzy, so I called in sick to work and slept about half the day. When I got up I wasn't dizzy anymore, but was still tired. So today I was going to go in for a half day and see how that worked... as I was walking down the hall, I ran into my boss coming the other way.

"What are you doing here?" she said.

"Um... working?" I said.

"You still look so tired! Why didn't you work from home?"

"My computer is here," I said.

"I'll go get your computer," she said. "You just sit down and then go home, okay?"

"Okay," I said meekly.

Then she carried my stuff back out to my car and told me that "This isn't a sprint! I know you want to do everything yesterday but give yourself the time you need, we will figure it out."

I really appreciate having so much support from work. I'm frustrated that even at five weeks I still don't have the energy for a normal day, especially when so many people have gone back to work at two weeks and been fine!

On the plus side, though, my weight loss has been good (I'm down about 63lbs from my highest, nearly 40 since surgery) and I have been tolerating all my food and Vitamins really well, and my incisions are healing well, and even my bad knee has been improving, so I try to hold on to that. It's also been fun shopping for new clothes in the "outgrown" parts of my closet!

If only we could force our bodies to bend to our wills...

[quote name="laceykp" I am so sorry you are not getting the support you need, breaks my heart. This journey is hard enough w/support but without it, makes it super difficult. I have not lost a lot, I'm 5 weeks out & down 19lbs. But I would like to be part of your support team. Feel free to private message me if you have questions or just need to vent. I truly feel my October Sleevers are an extention of my support team as well as BP in general. Stay encouraged. We will get through this together.:)

@@laceykp, at three weeks, are you on puree? Everyone is different. I went on the world according to eggface blog to find puree suggestions & on BP there is a subforum for recipes at the various stages. Check that out too.

When I was on puree, my diet was pretty boring & routine. I was allowed oatmeal & eggs. I Also ate refried Beans from Taco Bell w/guacamole. I also ate pureed rotisserie chicken w/a little chicken broth & Cottage cheese.

I did not have problems w/protein going down, so unfortunately, I can't really offer suggestions on that. Consider buying sample packs of Protein Drinks so you can try different flavors, instead of the large containers.

Drink Water, even if you can't drink the Protein, you have to stay hydrated.

Lacey, if you do go to the egg face blog, I tried her ricotta bake recipe and it was DELISH. I divided the recipe into four little ramekins and each ramekin ended up being about 250 calories and 18 grams of Protein (yours will vary depending on your ingredients of course.) I am on purees currently but I will say that I have a very tolerant sleeve. More picky sleeves might have some trouble with the melty cheese in this recipe. A half-cup ramekin made a full and satisfying meal for me, and I thought it was so yummy I would totally have even eaten it before surgery!

I've also been eating a lot of cheesy scrambled eggs (apparently a puree on my plan, go figure) and I can eat almost one egg (like 3/4 of the egg.) It helps if they are made nice and soft. There is a way to make scrambled eggs that comes out really soft and creamy and easy on the sleeve: http://beekman1802.com/recipes/joshs-lazy-scrambled-eggs/

If any thick stuff at all hurts your tummy, you can try the Isopure clear Protein drinks. They are not great tasting but they are thin. Also you could dilute with Water, Crystal Lite, etc., to try to cut the icky aftertaste.

Found a really useful link for diet issues. Here it is http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/bariatric-diet.html#Long-term_Bariatric_Diet.

Also every doctor has different guidelines it seems - I looked at many sample diets. Some doctors are more conservative and keep patients on purees longer. I can post the sample diets if anyone would like to see them. I was daring and rushed through the stages a little. My NUT and nurse were okay with that and said just try each new food one at a time. My sleeve can handle almost anything but everyone is very different. Trial and error.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
