I'm really getting tired of the air bubbles and birps, or feeling like I need to but can't, just from drinking. I'm taking small sips, not gulping, and air still gets down. I've tried straws, no straws, didn't matter. It's annoying and frustrating.

Any suggestions? (Almost 5wks post op)

I was told not to use straws.

You aren't that far out yet, so it may be temporary; just continue to drink small amounts and not overdo it. Chances are fairly good that it will get better the more you heal.

I didn't used to have this problem earlier on. We were told not to use straws either but I needed to try and see if it helped.

I've just had a rough couple of days with foods too that I didn't have a problem with before so I'm going back to liquids for a day or twoto get my esophagus swelling down since I've had to get the stuck foods up. I'm learning what's ok too eat and what's not.

I have problems with my esophagus that makes it hard for foods to go down easily at times.

If I'm not careful certain foods get stuck and it's very uncomfortable.

It passes the discomfort thank goodness.

My suggestion is have it checked out if it continues by a gastric doctor if it concerns you.

I use Gas X strips and they work faster then the pills to get rid of the burping and discomfort.

Feel better and you will learn by trial and error of what foods to avoid until a later time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
