Gas makes you feel like vomitting

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone this is my first post. I was sleeved on August 4th and have been on "puréed" food diet for the past week. Sometimes when I eat certain food I feel full quickly then get the sensation that I need to throw up. After I can get a few burps out the feeling goes away and I don't feel as full. I'm scared to eat more after that for fear of throwing up so I get hungry somewhat quickly. Has anyone else experienced it? If you have will it go away and how do you deal with it? Thanks!

welcome to the board!!! :)

you have successfully made a post

its all uphill from here :)

you had surgery about 3 weeks ago

on pureed' now

you should always stop eating when you get a "sign" burp et al

if you are afraid of vomitting - stop!!!

my doc used to tell me ' eat til i'm full, then stop 2 bites earlier

you should always get the proper answers from you doc or NUT

we love to give "free" advice ;)

comments, support

medical queestions???

we're here to give our experiences

but---- listen to your doc first and last

we are all great here, but listen to the professionals, thats why he gets the big bucks!!

good luck for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life :)

who deserves it more?? :)

I was sleeved on august 5 and this happens to me too , its when I eat without chewing much , today I took a pill and it got stuck in my throat , then I got some burps and was about to throw it up , and Water couldnt solve it so I ate a small piece of toast then they went down.

Slow down when eating and chew chew chew.

Yea this seems to only happen when I have dinner and my stomach is very empty and I'm super hungry . I'm going to try and eat a "snack" between lunch and dinner and hope that will help...

Hey there!

I know exactly what you are talking about and it is extremely uncomfortable. I've learned I really had to change not just what I eat, but how I eat it. I used to shovel everything in and never take more than 10 minutes to clean my plate. Now, to avoid the feeling of being too full, I have to remind myself to sit down, cut all food into toddler size pieces (training silverware for kids works awesome for pacing my eating btw, so ya know something to think about), eat a small piece and put down my fork, chew twice as much as I think I need to, and then finally swallow and waiting a minute or two. It's been the most challenging part of the whole experience. All I can say is try slowing down a bit - put your fork down between bites and just wait a minute to see how you feel. You'll learn your new tummy eventually, but it's all a learning process. Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
