At 8 wks post op, FINALLY hit the 40 pound mark...thoughts?

Recommended Posts

i am 8 wks post op and the scale is starting to slow down. i FINALLY hit the 40 pound mark and have teetered there with tiny gain and loss for the past week.

i don't want to compare, and i try to not be number phobic, but does that seem on track for 8 wks out? i lost 15 during my pre op so really in 8 wks it is 25 total. that seems a bit low, but my BMI on day 1 of my pre-op diet was exactly 40.

thoughts???

Your body is going to do what it's going to do as long as you are doing your part with your diet and exercise. Enjoy each moment! Distract your self from the scale. Remember you didn't gain it over night and you won't loose it that way either.

thanks for the encouraging words! i used to NEVER care about numbers, ie: calories, carbs, weight, pounds, sizes, etc. i was fat and unhappy and just ate and ate.

now it seems that i'm looking at weight, sizes, time frames, ounces (servings), etc. i just don't want to screw this up and very much need to stay motivated!

I know how you feel. The scales have been frustrating to me! Surely, the weight will come off...we just have to be patient! I think I'm staying away from the scale for a while...

You are doing fabulous! You already know this, but don't compare yourself with others...they are not you. my standard advice for posts like this is...."throw your scale away and you will be a lot happier". But if it makes you feel any better, at 7 weeks out I had lost 17 pounds postop. The difference is I was thrilled with every single pound and never once questioned my success.

thanks everyone! i'm feeling thrilled, really. I have lost more with my surgery than ANY other time i EVER tried on my own. ever!

that is a huge success in itself. I just want to know that my weight is coming down in a fairly normal fashion. it sounds like i am. I think even more about IF i'm losing normally because I have PCOS and i was concerned from the beginning whether that would slow me down or have any impact on my rate of loss. sounds like it probably doesn't! whoo hoo!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
