tips to keep a stall from bumming you out?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks! I am 6 weeks post surgery and having my first real stall- scale hasn't moved in 10 days. :-( I knew this would happen eventually (from these boards and my surgeon also warned me) but it is still bumming me out! Anyone have any tips to help get through a stall without getting too discouraged or anxious that it will last forever?

I would take batteries out of the scale or ask my daughters to hide the scale for 2-3 weeks. I always saw a loss after that! Seeing a big loss is always encouraging. I also chart my weight loss progress on Myfitnesspal. When in stall, I see what I have lost so far. The downward graph certainly lifts my spirits!

Believe in the program and continue to follow it! Even with multiple stalls and breaks, I am close almost 63 pounds down from my high weight! It does work!

Just keep on following the program.

I was banded in June & I too am at a stand still. I've had two fills but still feel like I'm eating to much. Its so frustrating!

I have also started to stall...here is a link that I found on the net and makes sense:

Stalls can be very discouraging. Just know that if you keep following the plan, the scale will eventually begin to move. I'm 3 lbs from my goal and have lost NOTHING in the last month. I really thought I'd be at goal by the end of this month but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I have found though that, when I have a stall that seems like it lasts forever, when that scale finally starts moving again, I will lose several pounds in a matter of days. So right now I keep telling myself that I'm eating right and doing all of the right things so I know the scale will eventually move and, when it does, I will likely drop enough that I will be below my goal.

Only weigh once a month...... It's very liberating!

I had wls on 5/5/14 and had hit a wall so to speak 2 times. I followed the advice given here. I stopped weighing myself every day (obsessing), and also to increase my Protein intake. I added one egg per day to my usual 2 per day and also added 4oz of Premeire Protein Shakes that I purchased from costco. My daughter suggested taking the chocolate flavor shake, pour 2oz into blender, add ice and 1/2 teaspoon of low sugar peanut butter(smooth). Whirl this in the blender until smooth. This tastes amazingly like aReeses Peanut Butter Cup. Because it makes more than 3 oz, I freeze the left over and it makes a great protein snack. Yum. And....I broke thru that wall and began to lose again. For myself, adding the protein tricks my body into letting go of the weight. If my body thinks I'm starving it.....it will hang onto every oz. Good luck and don't give up. It's all a part of the marathon.

Just make the decision it will not discourage or derail you. Keep following the plan. Exercise that tush off (literally). This is not a race, it's a lifetime. If you don't give up, a stall won't last forever.

I never had a stall until the very end of this journey. (My medical folks are telling me I'm done losing weight.) What's my secret? I only would weigh once every 2.5 weeks. That way, I only saw major losses, no stalls. Good luck!

@@Crystal76 I feel EXACTLY what you say. In fact, I think our stats are VERY similar and I have also had 2 fills. Going to see my dr tomorrow. I'm so discouraged at this point :(

Sleeved July 17, 2014

Total weight loss in 4 months is 105 lbs.

Number of stalls in that time frame: well over 10

I was told by a good friend who had gastric surgery before I did to "Expect the stalls. They are part of it."

The key aspect to remember is that weight loss and healthy living is an aggregate measurement over the long term - stalls are temporary, short term pauses while your body makes a corrective change.

Your job is to keep doing what YOU need to do to allow your body to help heal/shrink/repair/nourish itself.

Don't sweat stalls...they are coming- just like your weight loss is coming. The only difference is the stalls are temporary and the weight loss is long term.

You will do fine... relax and enjoy the ride

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
