mama0297 6 Posted August 20, 2014 Sooooo, I have only 1 more appt. in Sept. then I should be done. Well, not so much. I was told since I have had prednisone for my neck (degenerative disk disease, arthritic, with a pinched nerve) I have to wait until 6 more months for surgery. HAHAAHAHAHAHAHA! Then they tell me my PCP said that my sugar has to come down (currently at 7.4 a1c) cause it was 346 at the time of testing. Yeah, the prednisone elevated it and what could I do. I was at the bariatric centers doctor and told them this, they did not mention the time to wait. WTF!!!!! That makes for 1 year to wait!!! There are sooo many meds and problems I have, but have been flying through FOR the surgery, I am at the point of giving up.... on everything! This is ridiculous, if I am at the weight I am and have so many problems at 37 y/o, why are they questioning this. This is just a rant and I am ready to give up on life....no joke! WTF are they doing!?
920amy 409 Posted August 20, 2014 mama0297, I feel your pain I started out going through all of the hoops, the pre op diet, psych eval, meet with dietician, exercise specialist...it was exhausting the sheer number of appointments and time. Finally it was 2 weeks before I was supposed to schedule surgery...and my husbands insurance changed. 'Don't worry!!' They told me! I could still have surgery, I just had to pay 26k out of pocket! No problem, right?!?! I was SO mad, SO frustrated, SO fed up!! So, I did some research, found an amazing company and surgeon in Mexico and had it done for a fraction of the cost in less than 1 month from when I contacted the company. No regrets, I'm not quite 2 years out and couldn't be happier. My husband's insurance changed again, and he just got sleeved here in the states last week. Best thing I ever did for myself, and so excited to be going down this path with him as well. Don't give up!! There are more than just one path to the sleeve!! Good luck! Forsythia 882 Posted August 20, 2014 Wait wait wait. Is the A1C rule your surgeon's or your Primary doctor's? My surgeon had a cap at 8 for HgA1C. My personal doctor was all for me having the surgery. I did have to work on getting my A1C down, but I did not have to postpone. And if it is just your doctor being a roadblock, have the surgeon refer you to someone who will write your approval letter and be done with it.
