I had my pre-op clearance Monday, which I passed without any problem. I go back to see my surgeon for a second follow up on 8/29 and will have my surgery date set at that time, probably for the first week in October. Now that this is actually getting close, I'm scared out of my mind!! I'm a "what if", worst case scenario person. I am terrified of something happening and having a bad complication from the surgery. The surgeon felt that I'm an excellent candidate and I know by primary care doc wouldn't be on board if she was worried about it. Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

Thank you in advance!

Karen

@@Cupcake - I did my clearance Monday. I go back to see Dr. Carlin for my 2nd visit next week. Wanda said surgery will probably be the end of September or first week of October. I think I am going to request the first week of October because I already have some time scheduled off work that month, so may as well put it to good use. Dr. Carlin was so funny. He asked how tall I was and I'm like "I think I shrunk because I used to be taller than this." He's like "well being tall isn't all it's cracked up to be." It was only then I realized that I was taller than him. lol He was great though! How was your stay in the hospital and how long were you in? Do you go to any of the group meetings?

KarenF1972 make sure you let Wanda know right away because I had to changed my vacation due to scheduling and given the wrong date. Wanda is the only one who can give you the correct date. My stay at the hospital was A1 my husband stayed the night with me every night , Dr.Carlin team Aka the purple team was fantastic. Dr. Carlin took excellent care of me and himself and entire team was great . His surgery procedure is Awsume too , you can barely see my incision . I went into the hospital on. A Monday and was release that Wednesday make sure you get all of your meds filled there before you leave . I do go to the support groups with Sally but I attend those sessions in Macomb. .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
