Christina44 6 Posted August 19, 2014 This will prob aeound weird but here goes. I am in month two of the six month process to surgery. I have been trying to chew my food to mush consistency and it is gross and I find it hard to do. I never expected this. After years of basically inhaling my food I realize the feel of chewed food grosses me out. I mean like I literally want to throw up. Please help!!! How can I overcome this? I need this surgery so badly!! Are there any others with this problem and were there certain foods that were better chewed to mush than others? If you had this problem how long did it take you to get over it?
jtickle 295 Posted August 19, 2014 You are not alone. I have already had surgery. I am on the soft food stage. I am supposed to chew to an applesauce consistency. I find this disgusting to do with meat especially chicken. I too want to throw up, because of the texture. I go see the doctor and the nutritionist tomorrow. I am going to ask how to get past this. That is a very good question. I will get back to you.
terry1118 1,274 Posted August 19, 2014 Even more disgusting is puking up everything you just ate because you didn't chew it well. You learn to do what needs to be done...
Angel❤️ 45 Posted August 20, 2014 So true terry1118. food getting stuck is the worst!!!! I am full food now but after the one incident I had with a piece of carrot getting stuck, it damn near sent me back to purées! Do you meet with a nutritionist yet? They may have some suggestions for you.
GODSON 20 Posted August 21, 2014 I know this pain. Im 2 months in now. At this point I prefer liquids over food. Never thought I would hate eating. I miss some foods but after I try to eat... the pain. The instantly full feeling. Taking two bites and not enjoy the food. Is definitely getting to me.. my days still are 3 Protein Shakes lots of Water. And maybe 1 meal. Just hate the way food feels now.
annix 0 Posted October 7, 2014 Hi, me too, having thrown up several times with food not chewed properly, it is easier to just chew chew chew!
ryn2bthin 87 Posted October 10, 2014 I am 8 months post op.. and it will get easier. I hated eating in the beginning and it's still not the favorite on my list but you need to try and eat at each stage of post op to keep the new opening working correctly and not shrinking up. Broccoli is still my enemy and bread. You will eventually get back into a eating routine. The worst pain ever is getting the food stuck from not chewing. Best wishes and know others have been there too!
