Auntie rose 22 Posted August 19, 2014 I am five weeks post op and am struggling to get in my Protein because even small amounts of chicken, ground turkey, or lean lunch meat makes me puke. I'm chewing good and eating slowly but I can only tolerate Beans and cottage cheese...very frustrating. I was living Protein Shakes but now they are gross to me too. This is a daily struggle
dsdesigna 143 Posted August 19, 2014 Try fish... baked with sauce or even tuna with plenty of mayo, canned salmon is high in Protein, I made salmon cakes but they might be too firm.
Moxy 58 Posted August 19, 2014 Try chili. Turkey chili was my go to meal during month 2 and
Ms. Laydee2014 9 Posted August 19, 2014 I went through the same issue... What helped me was refried Beans & other Beans in can. They're pretty soft and my stomach was able to handle it-- so you're getting some Protein in. To the day, chicken still gives me issues but i'm just now able to tolerate beef, steak etc.... Also, eggs were easier on my pouch and went down easier. Your stomach is still healing but as time goes on, more meats will be palatable.
katz54 1 Posted August 19, 2014 Hi, I am 6 weeks post op and am still struggling to eat anything more solid than mashed potato . Ive tried on a couple of different occasions and had to take a stage back each time. feel like im never gonna get past this. on a bright note I am still losing weight. It is annoying my husband though as he was against me having the procedure anyway.
RNBSN786 206 Posted August 19, 2014 Stay calm, you will get to eventually enjoy all the meats. Be patient. Good luck!
pookybear 284 Posted August 19, 2014 I still cannot tolerate beef or pork a year and a half out, and I'm allergic to salmon. I stick with chicken, turkey, and tuna. If I didn't need the Protein so much I'd probably just become vegetarian.
Auntie rose 22 Posted August 20, 2014 Thank you guys for all your input! This is so helpful and reassuring! One day at a time
RNBSN786 206 Posted August 20, 2014 For me it all depends on how it's cooked and how soft it is. For example, I can have ground beef in sauce or chili, or have pulled chicken and it has to be soft for it to go down. Or ground turkey in sauce or even soft steak I can tolerate. I love fish so that's easy for me. If the burger is hard and dry or any of the meats are dry I can't eat it. It would get stuck. Deli meats are still hard for me to eat and pork I have not added it back to my diet. Everyone can tolerate things differently. bread, Pasta and rice and even potato are hard to get down and would get stuck so I stay away from it. Mashed potato I can eat time to time. Cakes and Cookies, forget about it...that won't work for me. So def try out the meats and see how you feel. Every day is going to be different. Good luck! MaggieAL 8 Posted August 20, 2014 I had my surgery on 7/16 and still have issues with meats, chicken and fish, even tuna fish. I finally called my surgeon and he had me come into the office this morning to do a EDG. The test showed that the opening to my stomach was very tight. So tomorrow morning I will have to do the procedure again but this time they will have a balloon to inflate to stretch the opening. He said this should help, Since the day I started soft foods, like you, it would get stuck and then I would puke it all. I have been mostly on liquids, mainly Protein shakes, Call your doctor, you maybe experiencing the same problem that I have, Good Luck.
