HOW is eating different post sleeve - don't you miss it?

Recommended Posts

I am only 3 days out and I'm not hungry nor think about food at all. My recovery is going well so far thank god. I am drinking my 64 oz or close to it of Water a day. I'm always thirsty. I am worried that I'm stretching my stomach by drinking all this Water but that's what they told me to do and I want to follow their requirements. I only felt a little nausea the day after surgery thank god but I bought a wrist band that may have helped. Any way my start weight was 298 my weight at the hospital before surgery was 278 and today I am 279. They say the iv Fluid may cause the weight gain after surgery. I can't wait to see my # on my scale to go down every month. Well good luck with your decision.

I went in the hospital at 294 and came out 306. So yeah, you gain a bunch of weight due to the IV fluids.

I have the band right now, but in the process of having the sleeve done. I really dont want to have 2 procedures meaning band removal and than sleeve a few months after. Is getting both done at the same time a bad idea?

Heather307 hi, I had my band removed and sleeve done on sept 4. I'm on a Lil more pain than it normally would have been but that was the only way I was gonna do it. No problems at all.

There's an old saying, "nothing tastes as good as thin feels". Now maybe at this stage some of us don't feel the desire to be "thin" as much as able to live again. There are small things in life that are important: tying your shoes with out a major effort, walking without huffing and puffing, looking and feeling proud in clothes and who you are, enjoying life as those around you do. So you have to decide if your love for food out ranks your love for life. I know my relationship with food is so strong that it ahs turned me into an unhealthy couch potato that is in fear of missing food more than missing life, so it's time for a change. I want to be happy, healthy and enjoy life, this doesn't mean I won't ever be able to enjoy real food again, I just have now the tools to control it. I WILL at somepoint intend to enjoy my favorite ribs, my favorite pizza and my favorite chinese food, but hopefully I won't be eating enough for two or three!I'm going for my sleeve in Tijuana on Sept 14, 2014 and I can't wait, I so wish I hadn't waited till now, and missed out on so much life.

Everything you just said is great! So true of me at least. I will be sleeved 2 days after you 9/16. Thank you for such an articulate commentary???????? I will re-read it often to remind me of why???? Good Luck!

I was sleeved 6 weeks ago. The feeling if literally not being hungry lasted about a week and a half before my appetite returned, not full force but enough to make me crave food. I'd say the first few weeks avoid restaurants. I went to the mall with my friends about 2 weeks out and got some Soup for lunch it did not go down well at all I had an episode.

Now eating was something to get used to I'm honestly still adjusting but I'm getting better at it. When i eat it's a very small amount before im full physically but mentally I still crave more. If i give it ten mins or so the mental craving goes away. If I overeat I get nauseated. Certain foods still make me nauseated even if I don't overeat because they expand in my stomach, like breads, doughy stuff etc

Eating used to be kind of depressing but now 6 weeks out I can eat pretty much anything in moderation so things are ok. I don't regret it. I'm finally losing weight, it's not like there is no joy in eating, just not excessive joy bordering on obsession.

I have been hungry since the get go. Not head hunger but I have that too.

I go to restaraunts a lot - I bring home leftovers and it works out really well.

I make different choices than in the past. Such as I never order a burger. Haven't had one yet and sleeve was 6/24. I crave one desperately but when I see or smell it or someone orders it. I just yuck.

I tend to stick to fish when eating out for some reason. My head just naturally goes there. Or appetizers if they're not deep fried.

I eat evry 2 1/2 hours or so and very very little. Up to 4 ounces depending on what it is.

I do not miss the quantity of food I used to eat. I do however notice how much everyone else around me eats and think it is so much food !

Went to a friends last night for dinner and like wow. How fast they all ate and how much. It was flabbergasting.

I've lost 47 pounds since starting my journey.

Lol its OK. I'm down 14 lbs surgery was on the 4th of sept. Im returning to work after my 2 weeks appointment. Not hungry at I am craving something to drink a lot but I cant drink fast. It has to be a Lil bit at a time. Being that today is day 4 I've only been eating Popsicles(sugar free) drinking crystal light and Jello. I have gummy vitamins and Protein Shots to drink. I'm at the stage where you can have milk based productsand strained cream Soups but iI'm not rushing it. I also had a hernia repaired when my Dr went it so I'm guessing that's why I'm hurting more

Truthfully, 8 weeks out and I am still wondering if it is going to get better. I never dreamed that I would feel this crappy (nauseated, difficult to drink even Water, love/hate food & so far special occasions have not been that special) I have heard it will get easier but still waiting. Maybe I am just impatient, but barely getting down 3-4 bites of food and then the nausea starts. Eating at restaurants is not the same and not as enjoyable or satisfying. Sorry to be so negative, just my experience so far.

@@Krispiekreme I feel so bad that you're going through this and the fear is real! It is my hope that better days are ahead for you, sooner than later. I'm schedule for September 26, 2014 and I really appreciate your honesty about your journey so far. @@keepingmysecrets here's one, not so good experience so far that some of us undoubtfully will go through :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
