Debbydo is back & humbled

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm back on the wagon! I was doing so well. Down to 179 last year and I took my eye off the prize and I'm back to 200.0 today. I'm going for a fill tomorrow and back on liquids for as long as I can stand it. This is such a great support place and I got lazy quite frankly, so here I am to reintroduce myself and get with the program.

Welcome back, Debbie! You are living proof that the band is a tool, not a magic bullett. Thanks for reminding us that this will always still take some effort our parts to succeed. :target: So many people get banded or have other procedures done thinking that it'll eliminate their need for any effort. When that fails, they blame the procedure. I'm only 6 weeks post-op, but I know that I am gonna have to continue to work at taking off and KEEPING my weight off for the rest of my life.

Thanks again, and glad to have you around! BJ

Thanks guys for the warm welcome, I feel like I have an opportunity to get to know a whole new crowd. My md's appt is at 10am tomorrow and I have the last supper mentality going on this afternoon but soon enough I'll be jolted back towards the right track.

OK well the 200lbs. was inflated due to :

PMS

I forgot to take my cardio meds (with a Water pill)

I ate like a complete monster over the weekend.

So the 191 this morning is tooo big of a loss in a short time to be realiastic - but I don't need to know that.

So far this week I've walked the dog every day, drank Water to the point of being scary in the car, eaten the right foods, kissed and made up with my surgeon, committed to going to the support group on Tuesday 5/8.

Started a journal here (be I can't get into the area again)

NOOOOO Chocolate!

Here we go!!!!

Well Your post gave me a push to get in the game again. Been gone over a year and probably been on a plateau about that long... Ended up with a major back surgery at the end of January, so thankful for the band, would have gained, 23rd surgery for me. Had 7 knee replacement revision etc for 5 years and gained 40-60 lbs each time. Band saved me this time! I have maintained over 40 lb loss but now need to kick it is gear to get the rest off. Still in PT for back, knee acting up and can't go to the gym yet until another month of PT, so need to quit eating the ice cream when I am down. I plan to get into the Dr's office and say hello and get weighed and tell him my plan. Support groups are a drive, so I will commit to them. Almost 1 1/2 years for me, amazing how time flies! Back to the forum is the first step, especially since there are still so few people who even know what a Lap Band is!!!! I have stayed pretty tight with my fill, determined to eat correctly. Most of the time I am really good. Was in pilates with a trainer twice a week before the back surgery, so I will look forward to going back, but for now I can walk.

Looking forward to doing a lot of reading here again.

Debra

Hi Debby-I am new to this site and I know exactly what you are going through. It does remind me that the Lapband is a TOOL and is to be used as such. How often I forget this, I always feel so close to failure-However-The post-op support group I attend has been very helpful. My surgeon doesn't want to see me unless I think I need a fill. I'm a little nervous about it but he seems to think I will be able to tell when I need a fill. Good Luck to you and keep believing that you can do it and you will! Linda M.

Alright guys to give you an update of my wagon ride so far. I was tightened on 5/3, I now have 1.5cc in the band. I know it doesn't sound like alot but for me it's very tight.

I'm going crazy, I cannot eat anything. I know, I know not good, however for me it's the you need to stay focused, loose the 20 I gained back and move on with my life. I know this is not "normal" band life but it's fast and a jump start.

I'm down to 189 this morning and when I hit 179 I will fess up I'm too tight and get an unfill.

Thanks for all your encouragement guys.

Hey Debby

Long time since I've been on here!! It looks like I missed a lot with you....

I have been filled to just about the max but have not lost ANYTHING in a year!! i have stopped at 175. I am stil getting smaller but just not loosing any weight, go figure!!

I still want to loose another 30 to 40 pounds ( am only 5'1" so being 130 is not unrealistic at my height)

Hope all is doing well with you!!

Christine, your long lost May 05 banding buddy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
