Our guidelines were 60+ grams of Protein, less than 30 grams of fat and 30 - 60 grams of carbs. The calorie count was limited to 700 for the first 6 months then increased to 850.

This all started only after we progressed to soft foods.

A word of caution-- always follow your program's directons.

Hope this helps.

That's funny I just updated my fitness pal for my 6- 8 week goals. I would like to hear what others are doing too? My instructions were to keep a 60 to 80 Protein balance and low carbs. so I put my Protein goals at 60 % into my app which is way higher than it should be but it keeps my carbs at about 25% and my fats under 15%. it's not an exact science. My calorie intake increased from 800 to 1000 and will go up again in 2 weeks. curious about other responses though. there is a bariatric food pyramid as well.

Eat more Protein than anything! Your body will "tell you" when you can tolerate something or not. Some days you will be able to eat something and the next you wont. At first smelling food witll make you sick! When you start becoming hungry try refried Beans. I lived off of those for a while after my surgery. Remember everyone is different and tolerates things differently. Drink tons of water! Hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
