I was considering the lap band and after talking to my doctor he basically talked me into the sleeve. I'm terrified of the long term affect and focusing way too much on me breaking up with food rather then being excited for a healthier future. Words of encouragement would be great!

Ps I'm calling all my doctors for the clearance before surgery 2 down 2 more to go.

Oh my goodness I can completely relate to your feelings. They were identical to mine up until 2 weeks ago.

I was just sleeved on this past Wednesday and I feel amazing. Sore, yes, but mentally I finally feel free of my cravings and good obsession. Literally it's like food, cravings, and guilt were this massive weight on my shoulders. Now? Completely different. I'm not hungry. I have no cravings. I don't particularly mind that I can only drink Protein shakes, broth, and sugar free Jello. Food has turned into something I merely need to work into my day. Not the focus of my day.

It is super early for me but I now am 100% sure this was the tool I needed to overcome my obesity. I'm sure it will get more difficult to resist my favorites but by then I know I'll have enough positive momentum to keep on heading in the right direction.

And can I tell you how amazing it is to get on the scale and always see a slightly lower number? I've never had that! I'm still bloated and constipated from surgery (sorry for the TMI) but I have already lost 10 pounds from my pre-op diet to now.

It's so scary, yes, but it will change your life. Just prepare for a tough pre-op diet which is horrible for the first few days. By day 5 of the diet I could already see that my cravings were going. It was like the diet started to reset my mentality and surgery finished it.

Good luck!

First off thank you for responding. And oh no you give me all the tmi. Lol I'm one to research everything and although I hear everyone's story I can't help but feel scared. I just want to hit a fast forward button and get to a couple months after my surgery date

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
