Older sleeve patient advise.

Recommended Posts

Any advise for sleeve patients that had their surgery a title over 2 years ago? I have gained about 6 pounds in the past 6-8 months. I'm nervous about gaining weight. It seems that I'm eating more and craving bad stuff. Anyone experience that? And what did you do. I'd really appreciate some sound advise. Thanks.

Look around on here, there is a section entitled "gastric sleeve veterans" or something like that, which is for people a year or more out from surgery. There are many people 3+ years out and more who post there, it seems pretty active.

You might get a better response if you try posting your question there. Good luck

Drink Water or zero calories drinks, get up and exercise, do something (whatever your niche is) to get your mind off it.

Have you all gone back to the same original rules we had in the beginning?

Hey ! I am 2 weeks post op, I kno this may sound horrible but when I see people saying they gain weight, does this mean your sleeve isn't restricting you or what? Or you eating pizza burgers and fries?

I say all that because it would be nice to know things will change...meaning I am 2 weeks post op and have had 3 baby spoons of yogurt....rest Water,tea,milk....so having a pretty bad dc regrets right now, would love to know hey I can get back to normal eventually and make better food decisions. Right now there are no food decisions...

Ha ha ha! You shall eat again! I am almost 3 months out and can eat anything - just not very much of it. Last night had a salad with cheese and the best grilled steak on it with deviled eggs on the side. I was able to eat 1/2 of one egg and about 2 oz of steak before I was full. I actually kept eating a bit more because although I FELT FULL - I couldn't actually grasp that I WAS full after eating so little. I actually overate just a bit on accident. And, yup, you COULD eat a pizza burger but not much of it and you'll be making better choices as you see the weight come off, anyway.:-)

Because you're normal

It's normal to worry and be concerned and fear surgery. It's a big deal.

But have faith you'll be ok

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
