Getting down to the wire!!! I'm day 5 on my pre op liquid diet. Everything is finally setting in that I'm actually going to do this. This life changing thing and I have so many thoughts that I was dreaming about it last night. I've been wanting this for years. I'm excited and anxious at the same time. One question that comes to mind for me is do you tell people you are having or had it? I'v only told my closest friends and I don't post anything on my social networking sites about it.

I haven't told many. I was open whilst on the shakes, so I just say hard work & perseverance. High Protein, low carb diet. I know one friend has told possibly two people, it's hard. But I also would rather those who are genuinely caring know & those who just want gossip to talk about someone else.

I don't post it on my Facebook page or anything, but when people ask about my weight loss most of the time I tell them I had surgery. So much easier than lying everyday (and , yes, I get asked everyday) It's been nice educating people about WLS, because so many know "someone" that had complications, or died, or gained all their weight back. The ones I don't tell are usually clients who I don't necessarily like and have no desire to have any conversation with outside of work related stuff.

My weight was causing me breathing problems, and everyone could see and hear that. So I told them all I was having the sleeve to relieve those problems. It is really hard for anyone to be critical or gossip about "I want to breathe." Ironically, now most people just want to tell me how much better I look.

I have not told anyone because it is none of their business only my family know and everyone else knows that I have been exercising and eating healthy now since last August. I do not need all of the added stress or negativity fro anyone because as we all know we are or worst critics . Congrats to everyone for being healthy an making the choice to be healthy because we all know it was no easy task to make this decision .

MY husband, children, fav cousin, fav auntie, brother and mother know. I didn't tell anyone else because I didn't want to hear any negative about the WLS. My mom is totally against it and at first I was not going to tell her that I was finally going to do it. I was going to wait until afterwards and she can see the results from my decision. But my hubby advised me to tell her and she was in opposition of it straight out. I am 39 years old and my mother out right said, "You are not getting the surgery." I just had to laugh a little because I was surprised at how she said it. Well, while I was visiting her a few weeks back, I did not mention it anymore. Guess what mother, I am getting the surgery. Some people put it on social media but for me this is a personally matter and I prefer to tell only close and sincere relatives at this time. Some people are just down right noisy and just want to talk and others just want to get some info for themselves. Of course, the choice is yours.

I told friends, family, and close co-workers and everyone has been really supportive and giving me oodles of compliments on my weight loss. I was expecting at least a few people would try to get me to defend having the surgery, but nope.

Being open about it is not for everyone, but I rather live my life as an open book to friends, family, and co-workers I'm close with.

Hi, I'm like some ppl here. I don't post anything on my Facebook and I don't announce it. My family members do know. My mother has told relatives who I didn't want anyone to know either, but mom told. At my work no one knows and I don't intend to say anything at least not yet. But my reason was for my diabetes, blood pressure, Migraines, fibromyalgia to disappear in time. So far no more medications for diabetes nor blood pressure.

I believe its no one's business to know, but in time ppl will find out.

It's up to you if you are ready or not ready to tell anyone.

Good Luck to you!

After going through a 6 month supervised diet and just getting approved a few days ago, I've still only told my hubby and my mom. My hubby's family is very opinionated and gossips to the ends of the earth. So much so that his sister's nickname is Mouth. Lol! At this point, I just want positive support. I don't want to hear someone else's opinions about if I should or shouldn't have the sleeve done. I've made up my own mind over 5 years ago. I've made this choice. I'm ready to change me. There will more than likely come a day when I have to say something. But, that bridge will be crossed when I get there. For now, it is being kept private.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
