Painkillers

Recommended Posts

I need to ask my doctor this but thought I'd run it by yall. What sort of painkiller did you need/take in the hospital and once home and for how long, if anything? I seldom take anything for pain beyond ibuprofen (which I know I'll not be able to take anymore). The gave me darvoset (?) after my hysterectomy (it was not laparoscopy) but I heard that is no longer used.

When first out of recovery, I was on IV Morphine. When that proved to not work they switched to Diluded (sp?). It seemed to work better but for shorted timeframe. Once they added IV Tylenol along with the Diluded and it was wonderful. The next day, IV came out and I was switched to liquid Vicoden (Lortab) and although it tasted awful, it worked great. I was released with a script for the liquid Lortab and I have used it 2-3 times. Definitely at night so I can get some rest. Hope that helps :)

I don't like pain killers at all. Nevertheless I had IV morphine in the hospital, via a pump so I could self administer as needed. I would guess that I used it about 5 times over the first 10 hours. I was sent home with liquid Tylenol #3, which I used maybe twice. I still have a huge bottle that I should just dump.

I waa also on iv Dilaudid while in the hospital

Good stuff. Was on liquid Vicodin at home. Used it for about 10 daya. Had a rough recovery. The liquid Vicodin is much better than the pill form.

Not sure what a I got IV in the hospital, but really had no pain. Went home with Supradol, a sublingual NSAID, but didn't need to take it. I saved it and did take it when I had back pain a couple months after surgery. Worked great.

I think I got some tylenol via IV. Then I got a dose of morphine my second night. I was sent home with a script of Oxycondon.

I didn't have a pain pump.

I had IV dilaudid via the PCA pump in the hospital. It made me nauseous though, so I stopped pushing my button for it at about 3am the night after surgery. Once I passed my leak test the next day, they gave me the liquid lortab, which worked fine. Then they sent me home with vicodin pills, which I took once or twice a day for the first week. I bought liquid tylenol on the way home from the hospital, and mostly used that.

When I first met with my surgeon, I had to sign something saying that I understood that he would only prescribe pain medications for the first 30 days after the surgery. I'm amazed that some people needed them for that long, because I really had no pain after the first week.

All I've used for pain control since surgery, for headaches, sore muscles, cramps, etc. is Arnica. I used to need to pop 3 or 4 Aleve a day during my cycle, but haven't had a bad one since surgery. Fingers crossed that the weight loss has somehow helped that too!

Thanks all. I'm really encouraged by so many saying they didn't need much in the way of pain killers. I'm not too fond of them myself. Most tend to make me feel sick.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
