my first experience with dumping.

Recommended Posts

I am still on soft foods. I am allowed to have lean ground beef. Well, I made some with a little steak seasoning which consists of some garlic powder, salt, pepper and things like that. Nothing fattening. Anyway, I ate about 3oz of meat and it took maybe 15 minutes after eating it I became very ill. Heart racing, feeling faint, the whole shebang. I sat there for about 20 minutes with the foamies and I drank two sips of Water. It immediately came back up. I finally had to lay down and sleep it off. It was an experience, I don't want to do again.

I haven't had the surgery yet, but I've heard that some dump and others don't. I wonder why that is?

Is that dumping or you just got something stuck?

I had that when I ate too fast last month and it was a tiny pc of peach stuck......

I'm pretty sure it was dumping. I've had tuna get stuck and that was painful as all get out. Thought I was going to have to call 911, felt like I was going to die of a heart attack. Wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.

Yesterday was my first experience with something getting stuck. It was one of the worst feelings EVER!!! I felt like I had swollen a bowling ball covered in shrapnel and NOTHING was getting past it. I too thought I was going to have to call 911 for fear I was having a heart attack. Lol Luckily, after vomiting every 10 mins for about two hours, it moved. I'm half tempted to live on purées and shakes for the rest of my life so I never have to experience that again!!!!!

What are "the foamies"? I've heard others mention it.

I'm guessing the sauce you used may have been the culprit--probably has some type of sugar in it.

I've had what I think is dumping syndrome once and I don't ever want to go through that again.

I had dumping after I had my gallbladder out almost 18 years ago. Since surgery I have not. I feared it would get worse. Last year in May I had colon cancer at stage 1. We caught it early and I am resolved on getting healthy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
