1st Week Post Op Diet Dilemma

Recommended Posts

So... 3 days after surgery and I'm now off the "totally" clear liquid diet. Finally back to full liquid diet 'thank goodness!' But I'm getting tired of cream of chicken/celery/mushroom/shrimp from Campbells. I'm wondering if I can use my wonderful Vitamix and make my own cream Soups. Does anyone know if its against the rules to eat cream of broccoli or some other vegetable as long as i make it the consistency of a creamy Soup? Can I not puree chicken but incorporate it with other veggies or potatoes and make my own low-fat/low-sodium cream soup? Are there any other soup recipes out there for me? Maybe other flavor creamy soupsby another company? Any advise would be appreciated.

I pureed Soups for that phase. I still eat pureed soups for a day or two after a fill.

That's interesting.... I thought it was too soon for that but if it works and if I can tolerate then... maybe its worth a try. Thanks!

You can basically eat what your band will tolerate. It is so different for different people. Some foods are stringy like broccoli but as we all know if it is canned it is mush already so prob fine but ALWAYS go by what the doctor says or it is your own risk.

I made several home made Soups post op, and used my magic bullet to purée. It worked out fine. I even took meaty Tomato sauce and puréed it. It was delish. I was so sick of sweet Protein shakes! You can also drink Kefer probiotic yogurt drinks. Those are very filling. Making home made Soup is the way to go. It gives you something to do as well as some good standing and moving time.

I was happily making my own cream soups, but check with your NUT or doctor. I just added veggies to everything in the blender.

Side note: maybe it's my iPhone but I cannot read your posts with the font and color you use. I can only read it when I hit "quote" so it puts it in regular text.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
