My surgery is next Wednesday August 20th and I'm scared of the throwing up. And if my stomach will leak. I've thought about backing out several times already. All I can do is have faith that God will get me through this. He has never let me down.

Don't have any fear of anesthia. Had a double mastectomy and reconstruction a few years back so that part is nothing to me. Actually sometimes the pre med versed that they give you is very calming and you don't remember a thing. I can't say that I am scared. Just a little sad. I have realized that thru the pre op qualifications that food is a big part of our society. I will miss those dinners with my husband for a very long time.

Two and a half days out. Still in hospital. Now I understand why this is so effective: the mere thought of food disgusts me. It still feels like I hve horrible food poisoning. Always on the verge of nausea. The first few days of recovery are definitely rough, but being in a hospital room with ppl who are awaiting heart transplants, have terminal illness and non elective surgeries certainly helps put it all into perspective. What they say is right: walk as much as possible after the procedure. I should be going home today. Will check in again when it gets better! Best of luck to all of you

I've only lost 7 lbs so far with my pre Opp diet. Should I be concerned?

I actually only lost 6 but I am under the impression that (unless your doctor has said you are too overweight for surgery) the pre op diet is mainly to shrink your liver as they have to move it during the procedure. Weight loss is just a bonus. If they didn't mandate a weight loss before you're fine. Good for you btw

I don't want to identify myself YET but let's just say I was on a certain reality show and won money for losing weight on my own. That was 8'years ago. I kept it off for about 5 but then had surgeries and was severely anemic. That coupled with another issue and I gained a bit back. I'm super short so I decided to give myself this gift. I shouldn't HAVE to work out 2 + hours a day to maintain weight loss. I don't even eat poorly. Just too much of the healthy stuff. (Pretty certain my body believes it's a 6'7" NBA player) in any event my surgery is tomorrow and I'm terrified. There's nothing I hate more than throwing up. Tell me I'll be ok. Thanks in advance.

As long as you follow the rules, you should not throw up. The only time I came close was when I took the nausea medicine. Not gonna lie, the first three weeks suck but it's worth it.

I am 8 days out and have not even come close to throwing up one time! Woot! And very minimal discomfort for me. Off pain meds completely after 3 days. You can DO IT! :-)

May I ask how tall or not tall you are? I am 5' in the morning and less so at night. My hope is that I will finally behave and eat for my height! I am scheduled in 4 weeks... Reading the posts of you peeps who are posting updates is great, but I am looking for some shorties, also.

Welcome! You need to do what is best for you.

I've often watched shows like the biggest loser and extreme weight loss and get so down on myself. I don't find them motivating at all. Not sure if anyone else feels that way.

I'm sure real life is harder than being on a reality show. In real life most of us don't have nutritionists to plan our food, chefs to prepare it, and trainers to tell us what to do, when to do it, and for how long.

Another part we don't see is how long it took and where people really struggled. Magically each week we are shown these people with massive weight loss and honestly, we really don't know the time frame it took.

I wish the best of luck to you! Done be ashamed or embarrassed of who you are and the journey you have been on. From what I've seen, many people gain weight back after those extreme shows because they aren't realistic.

I also have anemia, it's a pain! I wish I could just store Iron like most people.

Good luck! My surgery is next Wed. and I can definitely empathize with your fears and trepidations. I also find it interesting how each of us seems to have a different thing that scares us the most. I'm not worried at all about vomiting, but anesthesia scares the living daylights out of me. I'll tell you what people keep telling me, stay strong, stay brave, nothing is going to happen that shouldn't happen and this is nothing compared to other things you've been through.

Sleevarilla - leaks scare me the most! Anesthesia kind of freaks me out, but I think a leak tops my list

I sympatize! I'm sure you'll do just fine though :) I'm with you with the fear of vomiting. There is nothing I hate more either-mainly because I rarely throw-up, but when I do, my body gives it everything it has which makes it much worse because I fear I'll damage something shortly after surgery. But that fear and the many other fears I have surrounding having this surgery, don't compare to the fear of continuing to live like this. Best of luck with your surgery! :)

Hahaha when you say your body gives puking it's everything I have to laugh...I swear I puke so hard I piddle my pants almost every time!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
