Surgery during That Time of the Month

Recommended Posts

So, I just realized that I will likely be on my period for the day of my surgery, in a week and a half... Is there anything I need to be concerned about with this?

I had the same thing happen to me when I had my bypass surgery last week on 8/8. No real issues except one more thing to deal with. The hospital made me switch to a pad from a tampon and wear it the whole stay. A little tricky when you are trying to walk at first down the halls with little to hold it up. Felt like it was going to fall and several times during the night I had to readjust. Underwear not very comfortable at first. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

I was in the same boat for my sleeve. I got the big meshy undies with the huge pad to go with! It wasn't too bad because I was so focused on waking after my surgery and everything else going on that it didn't seem to get it the way and by the time I was home it was gone. I had a 2 day stay. Good Luck to you!

I had my period during my surgery, too. I wore big comfy undies and used the maxi pads from the hospital. They are enormous and I felt like i was wearing a diaper but there was no fear of leaks!! You'll be all drugged up and spend most of your time in bed, it's not so bad.

I will say though, I am glad I brought some Charmin wipes with me to the hospital. I felt so much cleaner having those.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
