For me, using affirmations are a great way to change my self-talk and rewire my brain. Do you have a favorite affirmation that helps you with your weight loss journey? Could you share it? What else works for you?

I don't really do affirmations, but I tell people that, "everything I lack, I make up for in denial." :-P

Haven't had my surgery yet but I definitely believe in affirmations. One of my favorites is " your thoughts become your reality"

Helps me to remain positive and hopefully will translate into a successful weight loss.

Wouldn't that be "My thoughts become my reality".

I like this one.

Edited for typo.

"I am stronger than I think I am"

"I can run faster than I think I can"

"Attitude is everything"

"This is my own personal journey and I am finding my way"

"Relentless forward motion"

those are just a few of mine that i like and say daily

I enjoy exercise.

I am a healthy person.

This food is good for me.

This Water is good for me.

I am lucky.

I have so much to be grateful for.

Life is good.

(Just now, the cat has snuggled up close to me. HOW could life be any better at the moment than that?)

My Inner Surfer Girl,

"I am a beautiful child of God. I DESERVE to be happy, healthy and to enjoy life."

"One Day At A Time."

"Lord, Grant me the serenity to accept stupid people the way they are, courage to maintain myself control, and the wisdom to know if I act on it, I'll go to jail." ;)

I love this version! Have never heard it before.

Good one, @Katcloudshepherd. :)

This one is interesting -- it's a third person form and I often do this over and over while driving:

My name is (say your name). In my open human heart, I choose (say your name) first, love (say your name) now, receive joy....

And some others:

I deserve all good things.

I am willing.

All good lies ahead.

Here is a great introduction to a book I started to read before my Gastric Sleeve procedure in July. It has helped me enormously. It's called" A Course in Weight Loss"

I actually started working through this with a therapist a few years ago. I moved and misplaced the book. I need to get anorher copy. Thanks for the reminder.

My thought process with regard to all things related to the sleeve went something like this...

Pre-Op Diet: "I can put up anything for two weeks if it gets me closer to my weight loss goal. I am going to kick the pre-op diet' a$$!"

liquids Phase: "I can put up with liquids only for 10 days if it gets me closer to my weight loss goal! I am going to kick a$$ on liquids!"

Soft foods phase: "Yay! Soft foods! I can totally do this phase because it's way easier than pre-op or liquids! And I am so much closer to my weight loss goal! I am going to kick a$$ on soft foods!"

Adding in exercise: "I can do anything for 30 minutes! I am going to kick this workout's a$$!"

Reaching goal in January 2014 : "OMG! I stuck with my routine for a YEAR and hit my goal! I really can do anything I set my mind to! I kick a$$!"

Currently kicking MBA degree a$$....

I am 18 months out and will tell you that YOU CAN GET TO GOAL!!!! We are the tape recording that constantly plays in our head. Use that tape recorder to become a fierce, fat fighting machine!! Affirmations are powerful!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
