Psych evaluation scheduled with Dr. Santavicca in Atlanta, GA

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my psych evaluation next Tuesday with Dr. Santavicca in Atlanta, GA. I was thinking this was going to be about a 30-45 minutes visit. But I was told today that the psych evaluation would be about 2 hours. My lord what in the world are we going to talk about for 2 hours. If anyone else have had Dr. Santavicca or had a psych evaluation, please share with me what the evaluation will consist of. I am really curious about what is going to go on.

Thanks

Ms. Toodie1974

Mine was about 2 hours, mostly answering the 500+ questionnaire. The acutal interview was only about 20 minutes. He mainly wanted to know that I had realistic expectations about how much weight I would lose, if I was truly committed to losing weight and was fully informed about the surgery and the risks.

Thank you for posting this topic, I'm not so worried about my own psych eval as I am starting to stress about my husband's! He is stressing out and that is stressing me out. He already sees a counselor and psychiatrist for PTSD related to the military and he is so worried he will not pass the eval for the sleeve. It's a good thing to know that we are not alone. I hope it is a breeze for us all.

I too, have PTSD and I'm going through the VA/Army hospital for my surgery and psych eval. What location are you at?

I met with the psychiatrist for an hour interview.

Then I took three tests -- took two hours.

Then a few weeks later had a second interview with the shrink -- for test results and his assessment.

Mercifully, he passed me on to the program. That didn't mean that I (like most -- all? -- of us) I don't have issues / topics that need some work on. But it means I was good to go to start the program.

I was already looking for someone to be in therapy with about health issues, and I liked the qualifying shrink so much I'm now seeing him. It's been a good decision for me. As I've mentioned several times, I'm devoting all the resources I can afford toward this final effort I'm making to resolve my overweight problems.

He is not really using the VA for anything anymore. Nothing against the VA, we are in a rural location in Oklahoma and it is a hassle to get to them. They offered tele-psychiatry but he wasn't really pleased with that and a new face every few sessions. We have very good private insurance so he is now seeing outside mental health providers.
