How Long for Insurance Approval

Recommended Posts

I've had my first consultation (4/30). Now I am waiting for insurance approval. I know they will approve the procedure, but I just want to know about how long I'll have to wait. I know it varies w/different insurances, but I just want a roundabout timeframe. I have Carefirst/BCBS.

Thanks!

It took mine 30 days and I called often to follow up. I asked mine how long it would take and they told me 30 days.

I just spoke to my docs office and they said anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 month. Woohoo! I can't wait! :) I'm praying for 2 weeks. I wanna get the ball rolling.

Thank you!

I was told 4 to 7 days... I'm hoping to hear something at my preop tomorrow.

Oh wow! Really?!?! 4-7 days?!?! That is awesome! I'm hoping my turnaround time is sooner than what I was told...that would be really nice.

One thing that really helps is to follow up weekly with your insurance. I had another kind of surgery 6 years ago that I had to jump through hoops to get approved. The first time my ins co said they did not get the paperwork. The approved me on the day they got the second set.

I would not have known about the "missing" file if I had not called. Be proactive and follow-up. It normally sits on someone's desk for 29 days until the end of the 30 days anyway.

My paperwork was submitted Friday 4/27. I called today to verify the insurance company received the information. They said they had and it was under review. I called to ask my doctors office a question about it which prompted them to follow up with it. I got my approval today!! I know this is MUCH quicker than a lot of insurance companies I have read about but I am thrilled none the less!

Hi ragdollx19:

This is too weird. I'm also a patient of Dr. Marsden and received my approval today. Woo Hoo!!!!!! Like you, it didn't take long for my approval once the documents were submitted to my insurance company. I need to call LBS tomorrow morning and schedule an appointment with Dr. Marsden to proceed further. I look forward to sharing this journey with you all.

Well, the process of getting everything TO the insurance company took forever, but once they had everything they needed, I was approved over the weekend. The surgeon's office submitted everything on the 27th, and they called on the 30th, telling me that I was approved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
