I started the pre-op this a.m. and the drinks are terrible! I had to choke it down and I'm supposed to drink one every 3 hours. Eww. I will choke it down because I can see an end. It's just 13 days. I can do this. I don't want to, but I'm going to.

I go for my weigh-in tomorrow and I don't think I've lost that much. I just got the drinks last Thursday, but I had a 70th birthday scheduled before they called me and surgery date. Then my husband had a 30th anniversary and we had cake, so I've had 2 pieces of cake while on the Protein shake diet. I'm worried they won't do my surgery now.

I saw my surgeon today. He wasn't that upset that I haven't lost that much weight. He told me to just keep drinking the opti-fast drinks until surgery and not to have any solid food until Thursday. I'm doing it. I'm not cheating. I'm having 4 drinks per day even though I was told to drink 5 drinks a day, I'm not hungry for the 5th one.

My surgery is 3 days away and the Dr.'s office has not called in the anti-nausea drug I'm supposed to take night. It's hard to get to a real person at his office. I get the answering machine.

I picked up the Iman pill. It wasn't covered by insurance and it cost $88.00. I was sent the post-op nutrition program which is exactly what I've read on this site. Clear liquids for day 1 - 5. Then other liquids like Protein shakes. Then mushies or pureed food for 2 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
