Paloma, I'm interested in the differences I see online in terms of what people are told prior to surgery in their introductory lectures and educational classes (if they had those) about VSG surgery, its benefits, aftermaths, and both possible and preferred eating behaviors. Was the information (that folks posted above) not explained in your classes?

Please don't misunderstand -- I'm not criticizing you at all. I'm just curious to learn what education the different programs share with patients. Thanks.

BTW, congrats on what sounds like a good recovery from your surgery.

VSGAnna2014,

I only had to meet with my NUT once. The meeting was an hour. I was given a booklet outlining phases of meal plan, meal ideas and options, and Vitamin directions.

The NUT also told me that I needed to eat Protein first and veggies as much as possible for the rest of my life. That I could not eat sugar, flour or heavy fats. No other options or sidebars. That's it and do it forever.

It wasn't until the forums that I started to realize not everyone is doing what I was told to do.

Like I said, I'm planning to stick to my NUT's rules. I don't plan on cheating. If once a year I can have a bite of cake or a special meal on vacation great.

I had to pay out of pocket. I had to forego a family vacation due to this decision. Therefore, I will succeed. I am changing my life and following the rules.

9 pounds in 8 days! Very happy right now though still waiting for some soft foods.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
