Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone experienced sadness after surgery. I had been fine (except for Monday when I freaked about port placement). Yet today I woke up and I feel extremely sad. Like I was watching a video on the death of Robin Williams and although Jumanji and Mrs. Doubtfire were two of my favorite movies I usually wouldn't have cried over this. But I cried and have just been having these really sad thoughts about being 25 and having wasted my years being overweight. I also keep thinking of all of the foods that I want to eat but I have been very strict with sticking to my liquid diet (except a cup of popcorn that I had Sunday). I am a week out of surgery but I am just not feeling any different. Anyways, this isn't therapy lol. I was just wondering if anyone else felt sad after surgery.... And what did you do ?

Feeling blue,

Lizz

Everyone gets down now and then. don't forget your body has been through surgery. There is stuff in there that needs to come out....your also somewhat swollen and feeling tired. It will pass as you start to regain your strength. Then as the weight starts coming off you will really start to be happier.

Robin Williams that is just sad. I have felt bad since I read it as well. It really makes a statement about depression in my books. Will miss the funny man!

Time will make all things better. But we will always experience happiness and sadness. It is part of the human condition!

RJ ,

. I know it's normal I'm just used to being happy especially when there's no reason to be down. You're right it's just an overall mixture of things and I am sure I will be fine.

Thanks for your response,

Lizz

You are 25 and have not wasted any time. You are exactly where you are suppose to be in your life. Many of us are much older and starting this. Try not to look back, just keep smiling and moving forward, it is only going to get better if you stick to your plan.

Like you, I got teared up over such a sad death. It hurts to know anyone who dies with a sad broken heart and maybe normally you wouldn't your body is going through a lot right now.

Give yourself some time, I personally think what you are going through is a normal feeling. If in a few more weeks you dont start feeling a little better then do something about it.

Hugs and love to my fellow bander.

Colleen

Lizz, I have been so weepy, too -- I loved Robin Williams, of course, but I would not have expected to feel hit this hard. And with emotions when one thing comes up for me it can be like a drawer opening in my chest. So I've been weeping over a dog we had to out down months ago, the shooting -- yet another -- of a young black man, my father's birthday and how he won't be around much longer. Just so you know, for me this place sure is therapy! I think you are doing beautifully, that a big part of this whole thing is the raw honesty we have to embrace. It's a lovely thing, too, the choosing yourself and your healthy future. Profound and powerful.

Yes. Your body is reacting to multiple stressors. On top of that, the suicide of a public figure brings up fears in anyone who has battled depression in any form. That includes a lot of us here, me too.

Your life is about to change and become so much more than you expected. Feel the feelings. Don't eat them. Follow your team's protocol, get some exercise, and I promise you, in four weeks you will be amazed.

God bless.

I felt extremely sad the first few days of my surgery coz I realized I cannot eat some of my favorite food. I was also sad because my weight went up after surgery . I was thinking after all the liquid diet? !...Anyhow, now I am 8 days post op and feel ok. The scale finally moved and I'm 8 lbs down.

Keep hanging in there. You'll feel better in a few days!

I was really sad and cried a lot the first week. Your whole life has changed. Surgery is traumatic. But the positive thing is you will feel better. Once the weight starts coming off you will be thrilled and happy. I have lost 35 lbs since July and I am so thrilled.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
