This just occured to me after reading other posts, but how will I know if the actual band that is getting placed into me is actually an Inamed Lap band??????? And what about an experation date????

I read that someone who went to Mexico actually received the box it came in after the surgery. Has anyone that has been banded in the US got a box with theirs? Also, someone else was talking about 2 Lap Bands being auctioned on e-bay. That has me asking questions.

Maybe I'm doing too much research, but just trying to cover all my bases.

It's a big deal, and I don't want to make light of it. I need to grasp all the information I can in the next 2 months.

Thanks,

Lynette

I had my surgery in Mexico and right after surgery when we got back to Dr. Sanchez's guesthouse he brought me the box it came in with the serial number and a credit card looking card that had inamed and that it was a 9.75cm, lowprofile, mini port. It had all of the info on it and then he brought paperwork explaining the same thing to me.

Hi beachgirl,

I think you were the one that posted that information I was talking about.

Thanks for replying.

I think this is where you have to really just trust your surgeon...I had no doubt that my surgeon would do what she said she would do...I have no idea what type of band is in me, all I know is that it is working...and I am so glad I have been banded...

Hi Lynette,

I had my surgery in my hometown Monterrey Mexico and right after my surgery, at my hospital suite i received my lapband box with the serial number, and a booklet about the band and also a lapband patient id card, where you must write your name and surgeon´s name, this id card explains the device, and explains also how the patient must eat.

I hope this info is useful and go ahead, you wont regret it

I had surgery april 10 2007 and lost already 29 pounds:)

I never had (still don't) reason to doubt that my surgeon would use something other than indicated. As for hearing they were sold on ebay, maybe they were - maybe they weren't. Either way, don't assume it was a surgeon who bought them. Hell, if I saw one the same size as mine, I'd probably buy it. It would make it so much easier to try and explain to people how it works, and before when I've had the opportunity to "play" with a band (e.g. inject my fill level into it and see the difference in diameter) it has been fascinating.

I wasn't offered a box, I'm sure it's not standard. I also wasn't offered my IV tubing, or any other packaging for anything used during my surgery. I also didn't ask.

Also keep in mind there are only what, three? companies that make the band, and one of them (AFAIK) isn't even FDA approved. It's not like you can just buy the generic. The FDA keeps tight regulations on things like this.

And I got a patient packet from Inamed, which I assume only comes with the purchase of a band. I doubt they hand out packages that contain "information about your new band". :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
