1 week post op , don't cheat! I learned my lesson

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I think this is a good site to post questions that seems to boggle me. I had lap band 8/6/2014. I gained 5 lbs after surgery! I have no clue why, I guess it was the fluids and gas that they gave me, who knows!

I have been on Clear liquids for a week now and started my shakes today. I was so down yesterday that I had godiva ice cream. Let me tell you, DON'T EVER DO THIS! I had intense pain after and I have to drink Percocet to relieve the pain. Now I realized I have to follow my doctor.

I am focus starting today. My swelling hasn't gone down and gas is still there.

I am back to work today and doing better than a week before. Everytime I look around people eating yummy food, I kinda regret I did the band but on the other hand, I am trying to look futuristic here and maybe one day I can reach my goal which is to lose 60 lbs!

Every day is new. This won't be the last time you over-indulge but let's hope it's the last time during your healing phase? Just mark it up to experience and start anew. You have a great attitude.

When you are healed, and when your follow up visits for fills finally get you into the green zone, I suspect you will find a lot of those cravings will go away. You will be looking for more healthy food choices that you can tolerate and enjoy, and many of the old food vices won't be as tempting.

I always loved bacon cheeseburgers and fries!!!! I still do... but I've lost the urge to order one when I eat out, because I am not that hungry and there are usually choices on the menu that seem to be more appealing. Once in a great while I'll order fried fish and chips dinner, maybe twice a year... but I could live without the semi annual treats and never miss them.

Give your band time to work.

I had my surgery yesterday and made the mistake of weighing myself. It said I gained 6 lbs! I know it's Fluid and swelling. So I completely understand. Don't worry I am confident this comes off. It seems a lot of people gain weight right after surgery.

Thanks everyone. Right now I'm back to being 178 and I hope I will lose weight as time goes by. If you do the math, the calorie intake is not even 1000 calories per day, so basically you can lose weight without even trying around 2 to 3 lbs / week. I am amazed on how people lose weight so quickly. I'm not one of those people unfortunately.

The band is not a miracle worker. Give your insides time to heal. the weight will come off don't get discouraged. The doctors give you guidelines for a reason. I had gas pains for like 3 weeks post op. hang in there and remember to listen to your doctor. Especially in this healing time.

You just started this journey. Don't have expectations and you won't be disappointed. Once you are healed from the surgery, you can focus on losing. Good luck!!

Most, if not all of us, have a life time of bad food choices in our past. That is not going to disappear because we have had weight loss surgery. Keep focusing on good and nutritious food. Let yourself heal and follow the instructions by your doctor. Don't beat yourself up. You are going to do great:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
