Is there anything I'm forgetting for Surgery Post Op?

Recommended Posts

I will be getting banded on this coming Thursday. I've picked up my Gas-X strips, got liquid vitamins, broth, Jello, popsicles, Water, tea, crystal light. Also prepared my living room for me to camp out there a couple of days since I have recliners there. Got Power of Attorney signed in case my daughter needs to do business for me as well. And got the heating pad that goes around you neck and rest on your shoulders. Can anyone let me know if I may be forgetting anything or give me some tips on realistically what to expect?

( Congrats ! Hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did. Dont forget chapstick, a BIG bottle of Water , and lifesavers( for cottonmouth) and a pillow or 2 for the car ride home. I cant do recliners, I was most comfy laying flat on the couch for a couple of days. I did need a little help getting up for the 1st 3 days, after that I was fine . Went back to work 1 week after the band. Good luck to you, im so glad I was banded, I got my life back !

Hi there and congratulations on your surgery date Thursday -- very exciting! You sound very prepared to me. I took flip flops to the hospital to slip on for walking. I walked a lot -- every time I had to get up to pee I put the robe over my shoulders and rolled the IV pole up and down the hallway, a little further each time. Then I'd nap a bit and repeat the performance. I'm pretty sure this is why I had such an easy recovery. At home I walked around our driving circle and got people to walk with me.

Still on cloud nine over the whole thing and it's been nine months!

Sounds like you have most everything. I mde sure to take chapstick. If you are staying overnight. Phone and charger and I wish I would have thought to bring a pillow for the ride home

Miralax because you will get constipated from the pain meds. Also I got chewable gas-x as well as the strips and I was thankful that I did as the strips had a strong flavor and made me heave. Also for the first two days all I drank was apple juice and Water, because everything else tasted so sweet and I could not tolerate it. So maybe apple juice. I also put everything on a counter in the kitchen so I did not have to bend or reach to have access to anything. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
